We were not too concerned with seeing any whales. There had only been one sighting all day. One should make the time to see the whole park. To the north we found out why it's called Lime Kiln. This site used to be a limestone quarry. One can see where the kilns were built to fire the limestone. Pretty cool... More

Great place to spot killer whales whether you are ashore or in a boat. The lighthouse is stunning too.

I went to Lime Kiln in hopes of seeing some orcas, even though I wasn't one of the lucky ones, i had a great time hanging out for a few hours. The views are beautiful and I did see a few seals hanging out in the kelp beds. Bring a picnic lunch, beach chair or towel to sit on the... More

For a wonderful day of hiking and breath taking beauty come to Lime Kiln Park. If you have a chance pack a lunch, water and maybe a bottle of wine. The water is perfect and needed for the hiking... but take time to sit and enjoy lunch overlooking the sound! Hike to the lighthouse and look for Orca's and other... More

The main reason I went to San Juan Island was to go whale watching. When I found out you could watch the resident orcas swim by Lime Kiln Park I knew I had to go there. I spent five days on the island and each day I went to this park with the hope of seeing the resident orcas go... More

Yea I saw some orcas, I guess some people might have missed them. Sorry orcas on their own schedule you might have 2 hang out for some time , volunteer s post time of the last sightings. My advice is follow the flotilla of boats, that usually means whales are around.

Amazing! You can see the orcas even closer than from the whale tours. Incredible opportunity! There is no charge for one of the greatest experiences available on San Juan Island.

Such an amazing place to whale watch. Be sure to bring your camera and binoculars. You may have to be patient, but it seems that whales pass by here most days. Bring a picnic and enjoy he beautiful views.

Amazing lookout point for afternoon whale watching. We were thrilled to have seen multiple pods feeding right off the coast of the park. Easy to access with the island bus (departs from friday harbor for $10 roundtrip). Small interpretive center in the lighthouse had whale facts & sighting stats plus a hydraphone to listen to underwater chatter. Park was easy... More

We visited Lime Kiln State Park at the end of the day, after seeing the rest of the island by car and on foot. In retrospect, we should have seen it on the way between American Camp and English Camp, but the island is small enough to double back, and I think the time we arrived, early evening, is the... More
