Recently visited fort Pickens while camping in the fort Pickens campground. The actual fort is very well preserved and has a beautiful setting as part gulf islands national park. The best thing to do is go to the museum first and watch the movie and read about the history before visiting the actual fort. I didn't know this so had... More

Went with my wife and 2 teenage nephews who are into history and want to serve as we did in the US Armed Forces (HOOAH!).They really got into the history of the fort and ran around every cranny they could find. Being a Field Artillery Officer myself, I loved looking at the fields of fire and intersecting fields of fire.... More

This was a nice park with a great self guided tour of the old fort. There are guided tours available and a lot more to see than we had time for. Definitely worth a stop.

While staying in Destin, we drove out to Pensacola for the day. At the Pensacola Visitor's Center, we found out about Fort Pickens and the National Park and decided to check it out. Then after driving out to the park gates, we almost didn't go in. Glad we did. The site was great with the beautiful white sand beaches and... More

The arches and tunnels are so beautiful with light coming through, if I were an artist I would spend hours drawing them. The museum in the side wooden building is worth visiting, and I would recommend watching the video there of the ranger doing the tour before touring the fort ruins themselves. But because the museum is a 5 minute... More

Really neat. Lots of places to take perspective pictures through numerous arches and tunnels, etc. Nice piece of history.

Really enjoyed exploring fort for a day with young kids & camera! Very interesting & isolated historic earthwork, brick & mortar with iron structures of a long past time is eerily curious & beautiful vast landscapes with beach areas also. Great light & shadow photos!!!

We visited here recently and my entire family (from my parents to my young sons) had a great time. As others have said, the history and the views are wonderful. I hadn't realized that this was a fort that was never held by the Confederacy. Several in our group took the guided tour and thought the ranger did a great... More

The drive to Fort Pickens is a beautiful drive through white sand beaches. The fort has an extensive amount of history. Unfortunately we went on a national holiday so we weren't able to take advantage of the Visitor's Center or access to the self-guided tour. However we could still follow the path and from the top of the fort you... More
