For years, being an expat teacher at an American school in Taiwan, I took students in my geography class (as part of a cultural/religion unit) to Fo Guang Shan, and each time I went there, I admittedly felt a tranquil sense overwhelm me, which is rather amazing given that I was taking 10-15 middle schoolers around. On other visits with... More

You gotta visit this place, a vast land showcasing Buddha. It's not fully completed as the statues have yet to be painted. So far only one Buddha statue has been beautifully painted. One would feel very peaceful once there. To be able to visit the place and get to know more on Buddha, you need to spend at least half... More

This is a really really nice place where you could spend 2-3 hours of your trip. Everything in there is worth looking into in precise details. Look through the 4 exhibit halls to get to know more about Buddhism and Fo Guang Shan.

I had an incredible opportunity to stay overnight in the Pilgrims Lodge and I had the most amazing experiences that I could hardly imagine. I was visiting Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and I was asked if I wanted to spend the night at the monastery but I had no idea what to expect. I was met by my guide ( a nun... More

It's worth the visit. The place is huge and beautiful. To go there by E-DA bus from Zuoying HSR station, the bus itself stop at E-Da world first and charge you NTD 37 and another NTD 29 to go to Fo Guang Shan since this place is up the hill farther. We only went for 2hr since we didn't get... More

The architecture was impressive. Huge. Clean. It's a Buddhist temple so being a place of worship, can't comment much.

We first got here through the E-DA bus that is right outside the Zuoying HSR station and leaves every 30 mins. It will take around 30 to 45 minutes for the bus to reach Fo Guang Shan Memorial Hall. At first glance from outside its entrance, it looks like any other temple, but oh my, were we in for a... More

More than a days worth to see. The new memorial complex includes a welcoming center that offers several shops and food options from snacks to dining. Overwhelming site to see as soon as you enter the courtyard! Lots of choices within the eight pagodas on the path towards the main/central museum. Plenty of photo ops throughout the grounds. Take time... More

This place is worth a visit even if you are not a buddhist. HSR Taipei to HSR Zuoying takes about 1hr 45 mins. There is a E-DA bus right outside the HSR Zuoying Station that departs every ~30 mins that takes you directly to Fo Guang Shan. The bus ride is ~45 mins. If you leave Taipei station at 7.30am,... At the moment when I saw the newly built big Buddha statue that I am so touched. All because of the incredible effort from everyone involved especially Master Xing Yun.
