We were here by Sept 2008. You can plan a whole day trip with this attraction. We took the bus from city to the last station~ Jinguashi. After spent more than half day here, we took the return bus to the next stop Jiufen Old Street, spent 2 hours then going back. That is how our one-day trip. Jinguashi consists many... More

A few things. This was an old Gold Mine which still has some gold. There is actually a giant piece of gold encased in a thick clear plastic case with holes cut out so that you an stick your hand in and try to lift it up... since it's over 200 lbs, there is no way you can do it... More

this place is surreal. peaceful and feels like you are back in olden japanese times. food options aplenty. no problem bringing kids too. after touching the gold bar, remember to enter the Benshan Fifth Tunnel. how often do you get to walk in a tunnel? we even brought a 6 months old infant into the tunnel and it is safe... I was there before Jiufen and so as to maximize time, I did not really finish wandering the whole place in detail. There were many flights of stairs to move from one place to another. I visited the place of stay for the Japanese Emperor, it has a beautiful small garden. Then I visited the gold mining museum...would be interesting... More

The stretch of four Japanese houses is very well preserved and the relaxing walk along the defunct railway track was perfect for a slow afternoon. A pity we were there too late as most attractions close around 4-5pm, so we couldn't experience gold mining. We drove and stopped by Jiufen for the chewy yam balls. The sleepy town is now... More

I really enjoyed this area! I went here first thing in the morning (took the bus directly from Taipei) and could feel the calm atmosphere with very few people. I even got to try on a kimono since the Japanese miners were a big influence at the time. Lunch time was quite crowded but I enjoyed the 'miner's lunchbox', which... More

A very nice park and museum on the gold mining history in this area. Highly recommended to come here after your visit to Jiufen (will be less crowded, too).

Visited Jinguashi Gold Museum after our trip to Yehliu Geopark. Arrived mid afternoon on Sunday. When up straight to museum with a short detour to see a Japanese-style accommodation where current Emperor of Japan stayed for short period when he was crown prince. Gold museum exhibits are good with accompanying histological explanation. Able to touch the 220kg gold block within... More

Went with my family and parents in the morning.... Started with watching a documentary on how the japanese style houses are built and mainteined and a tour of the houses....the old furniture and utensils are still well preserved and we felt like going back 50 years walking through the inter-connected houses. The friendly ushers at the houses walked with and... More

This attraction is not a very large area to explore but there are quite a number of flights of stairs to climb to see the sights. The museum and its accompanying surroundings offer a good insight into how gold mining started in this part of Taiwan and how it led to the industrial development of northern Taiwan. I honestly was... More
