Excellent ratio of reward to effort - fantastic vies in return for less than an hour's climb.

Great short but steep hike - about 50 minutes of steady climb to the summit from the parking lot. Excellent ratio of reward to effort. The view is spectacular, although overgrowth of the trees surrounding the rocks at the summit block a good portion of the view to the east, including sadly a very anticipated new angle of Old Rag.

My kids weren't up for the whole thing, which made this trail disappointing. It was a cool hike, but without making it to the vista, it probably isn't worth it.

Accessed trail off of rt 211 across from Skyline Drive entrance. There are no signs for this area to park and it has a nice parking area and very nice bathrooms with information etc. The hike is 3.7 miles roundtrip. You can do it wearing sneakers, but you have to watch the trail carefully all the time so as to... More

Enjoyable hike to the rocky peak which afforded grew views. Need to keep your young children close as there is a steep drop from the rocky ledge. I witnessed some young boys jumping onto a rock that was by the drop off and was quite nervous for them. That said, the views are great.

A moderately challenging hike, with beautiful scenery and so peaceful during a July Monday afternoon hike. We passed no other hikers starting from South entrance trail until we reached top of Mary's Rock. Lots of bolder rocks for children to climb along the path. A nice hike to take children. We hiked with two 5 year old girls who made... More

The view is spectacular! Worth the climb! I promise! Must Do when visiting Shenandoah National Park. Make sure to set aside a few hours, bring water/granola bars, and definitely use hiking shoes/boots!

A very scenic hike in Shenandoah park, although from Thornton Gap, it's quite a hike up. Nice views from the top.

This is a very typical Shenandoah hike where you end up on some big rocks with a spectacular vista overlooking the surrounding mountains. This really is a great hike. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that it's a much longer and harder trail than some of the others with very similar views. For example, Stony Man and... More
