The Skyline Drive is 110 miles from Waynesboro to Front Royal, VA. All of it at 35 mph. you must travel slow, hundreds of switch-backs. Entrance fee for the park is $15/car. If you have a Lifetime Senior Pass purchased at a National Park Visitor Center ($10) you get your car and 4 people in free, quite a bargain.

If you have a cloudy day like we did its just a long slow drive but the glimpses of views we got were beautiful so if the sun is shining take time out to do the drive im sure you wont regret it - we didnt and we didnt see much

We did Skyline Dr. just passing through. The views were beautiful. We saw several bears including bear cubs. We also saw some bears mating. We also saw several deer on our drive. Loved it!

We drove Skyline Drive from the Thornton Gap Entrance Station (nearest to Luray/Stanley where we were staying) to Swift Run Gap and took side roads to return to our house rental near Stanley. Having driven similar scenic mountain drives in the past, we knew pretty much what to expect, however the grandeur of the mountain vistas really impresses from the... More

I love everything about Shenandoah National Park. I can go there feeling exhausted and leave after 2 or 3 days of hiking and relaxing feeling ready to face the world once again.

There are about 70 overlooks along the 100-mile length of skyline drive. The east overlooks and the west overlooks each give different views. Certainly it is better to do the drive on a clear day. Even better would be a day with scenic cumulous clouds in the sky. Think of the length of skyline drive as divided into three segments:... More

I hadn't been to skyline drive in years, but it was a wonderful experience again. The views are magnificent. It doesn't have the height of the Rockies, but the lush vegetation more than makes up for it, plus you get great views of the valleys below. The National Park service has done a good job locating excellent overlooks.

It is amazing to drive and so many outlooks to admire the view. Big meadows is on mile 51 and you can get on and off and different places because you can only drive 35 miles an hour

Obviously, a beautiful drive with many nice overlooks. It can be foggy or the valley can be covered with low-lying clouds, which we experienced the first day, but the second afternoon, the clouds cleared and it was clear on our last morning. Don't only go for the day unless you are sure it will be clear or you could be... More
