The park was closed to vehicular traffic due to bad weather when we arrived, but was opened by around noon as the ice and storm effects were cleared away. Views around every turn!

The kids loved the beautiful views. I would recommend seeing it for yourself. It can get a bit redundant after awhile, especially with children. It is great for adults, but the kiddos can get bored with similar views. Still definitely a must see for the entire family.

The beautiful and bountiful and historic Shenandoah Valley is nestled between the Appalachian Mountains and the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia, split down the middle by mighty Massanutten Mountain and Interstate-81 and the history Valley Pike. For Civil War buffs like us or just nature enthusiasts and ambitious and inquisitive travelers, this is a wonderful region to explore. A good... More

This is second time I have driven along Skyline Drive which runs 105 miles north and south along the crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Shenandoah National Park. The first time was in spring when the leafless trees and blossom in the clearer air made the views even more tempting. In high summer, the viewpoints are still spectacular but... More

We drove from the entrance near Waynesboro, north to Front Royal on a Sunday in early November The first part of the drive was lovely - very little traffic - and we saw deer, and a fleeting glimpse of a bear cub. The views are amazing, and the foliage in early November was wonderful. It was a great drive. As... More

We had planned to drive skyline drive en route from WashingtonDC to Charlottesville VA. We had heard that it can be closed during bad weather but the day we left Washington was clear and sunny. However when we arrived the road was closed. I guess there was ice up in the mountains. Check before you travel!

This is a superb drive with lots of viewpoints, wildlife and even the odd bear. The speed limit is sensibly 35 mph so it takes several hours to drive through and there are lots of stops to interrupt your journey.

This is a beautiful drive atop the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you have some extra time and are in the area, I can't recommend it enough ! We drove through this month ( December 2013 ) and it was wonderful.

Still having a valid National Parks Pass from our previous US holiday, we incorporated a section of Skyline Drive into our travel from DC to North Carolina this year. Perhaps we were unfortunate in the section we chose, but it looked very similar to the northern section of the Blue Ridge Parkway we had travelled on a couple of years... More
