My husband was recently visiting with relatives from out of the country. We very much enjoy the trip up to Skyline Drive. This time, a black bear was sighted - which was extremely exciting. The best way to do this from Charlottesville is drive along the road but then make a stop at Blue Mountain Brewery for some of the... More

We made this drive in combination with a trip down the Blue Ridge Parkway in the third week of May. It was GORGEOUS; lush, green, lots of wildlife, hiking trails, and exhibits. This drive can be made in a day including time for a short hike and picnic, although one could just as easily spend several days exploring the many... More

Love riding our motorcycle through the park, though our favorite is the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Luckily, I live close enough to Shenandoah National Park to be a regular visitor. Skyline Drive is a very well-maintained road with one breathtaking view after another. There are numerous overlooks to stop and take in the sights, and there are endless hikes to suit everyone's taste: brief leg-stretchers to challenging day-long or overnight adventures. Hikes with sweeping mountaintop vistas,... More

This is a must do drive if your anywhere near the area. The wildlife is in abundance many black bears were seen from the car, some even crossing the road. We also undertook some of the walks that are on offer and it is an enjoyable way to see the area! Just remember to take your time and look around,... More

The Skyline Drive is worth the time it takes off the beaten path to see the natural beauty of this historic part of the U.S. Vistas expand as far as you can see-absolutely breathtaking. It was Find a trail day and members of the organization that supports the Appalachian Trail were at the visitor center. The lodges are very cool-authentic,... More

This drive is beautiful any time of the year. The views are beautiful. The Fall can be crowded with leaf-viewers.

Skyline Drive is a must! It cost $15 to enter the park (your receipt allows access for the week) but the views are breathtaking. It was definitely worth it. We even saw three bears - a mother and her two cubs. They crossed the road right in front of us! I

We talked about driving through here for over 10 years - and we finally made time to do it on our way back to PA. Excellent experience. Just so happened to be a 'free day' so we didn't have to pay to get in. It's a very nice drive. We saw 5 deer and 2 bear along side the road.... More
