i grew up not far from here, and i always loved coming up here. be cautious of the spandex wearing lance armstrongs up here as they think they are entitled to a narrow windy mountain road. they dont normally yield. be cautious of wildlife as they tend to run out in front of you. beautiful drive. will not disappoint.

We purposely made sure we went through the park using Skyline Drive instead of using the highway that goes to the middle part of the park. Great views. Animals come out so make sure you are on the look out. Saw black bears and deers.

Saw a bear near the road. Very cool! Enjoyed the flowered drive to mile marker at Big Meadows. Very well marked. Stopped at Dickey Visitor Center, stayed at Skyland Resort. My almost 6 y/o grandson was most impressed.

The drive is really scenic. There are so many places to pull over to look at the view. We were fortunate to see a bear just after entering the park along the road and later saw a mother and baby cub next to the road. Lots of trailheads located along the road so great access!

We went to Skyline Drive for my hubby’s b-day and saw 3 bears!! Two bears were on the side of Skyline Dr (Mile 10 & 38) and 1 bear was on the Overrun Falls Trail at Matthews Arm Campground, about 100 yards from the end of the campground. The drive is well-maintained and offers well-marked scenic vistas with ample parking... More

Be sure to slowwwwwwwwww down and keep your speeds under 35 mph -- the Park speed limit. There are sharp curves and double-yellow lines indicating No Passing throughout. Black bears Moms and tiny cubs plus other animals are often right on the edge of the road. Go sloowwwwww and you will see more animals - rather than mindlessly driving through... More

This 105 mile drive through the Shenandoah valley is beautiful. There are about 70 lookout points- impossible to stop at them all! there are several comfort stops spaced between 10 and 20 miles apart- take advantage when you see one! There are a couple of places to buy snack type food, but make sure you take drinks for the drive... More

This was a drive I have always wanted to do. We were able to do about 1/2 of the 105 miles. Wonderful views and a winding, well maintained mountain drive.

Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park is a wonderful experience. It is an engineering marvel (done in the 30's by the CCC), and has many beautiful observation points. There are hiking trailheads all along the Drive for all level of abilities. Lodging is available at Skyland Lodge and Big Meadows Lodge.
