While we did not drive the entire length of the Hwy 101 loop around the Olympics, we did drive 200 miles (322k) of the loop from Aberdeen to Discovery Bay. While there were certainly very scenic sections; for example, the area around Crescent Lake, portions along the coast and scattered portions north and south of Forks that pass by forests... More

This is a beautiful stretch of road dotted with fields of roadside wild flowers. I came across a blanket of pink orchids and sat beside the road for a while to enjoy it. Lots of wildlife!

Every color of October burst on the highway. Pines and leaves from the deciduous trees abound. Traffic was minimal and the new cuts were right ahead of the new fill of baby pines. It was a delight.

The peninsula places you in a space to realize how incredible the earth's gifts are. The shells, rocks, water, mountains are breathtaking.

We spent a week driving around the Olympic Peninsula - Highway 101 on the southwest side is great scenery and off the beaten track.

I recommend this drive in the late spring, summer or early fall. After than the rain and cloudy weather makes it a tedious journey.

Don't try to do this in one day. We did. Loved the northern part, southern section easier to drive, but not as much to see and do. Next time we'll make it a two day trip.
