Worthwhile

Be sure to have food, good coat, maybe even gloves especially if you are there very early in the day or late evening. Lake is very cold, but for the brave one can swim.

Beautiful lake near the north entrance with a view of Mount Lassen in the background. There is an excellent easy trail that goes all the way around the lake. Parking is very close to the lake.

A nice peaceful early morning walk around the lake rewarded us with some great views. As the sun warmed a nice mist rose off the lake which then mingled in the trees around the shore. All topped off with a good view of the mountain, fisherman on the lake and some wildlife including Deer that decided to swim across the... More

Beautiful lake with some nice fishing and kayaking. I highly recommend the kayaking. As you kayak to the middle of the lake you get a spectacular view of the mountain and a reflection of the mountain off the lake.

The Manzanita Lake area of Lassen is beautiful and fascinating. The lake is small, but it makes for a nice setting to take pictures with Lassen Peak in the background. Unfortunately it was getting late and was not able to take the whole walk around the lake, but long enough enough to get pictures. This area does have the biggest... More

Located at the northern most section of Lassen National Forest Manzanita Lake Cabins offers a breath taking setting. Different sized cabins in the woods near the lake. The lake may have been closer before the drought. Although there was little sign of drought here. The camp store is nicely equipped but the price of firewood is high! And I don't... More

The 1.5 mile walk (not hike, walk) around Lake Manzanita is perfect for photos of Mt. Lassen from about the half mile mark. You not only get direct photos of the volcano, but the reflections of the mountain on the surface of the lake is even more stunning! There is a store near the campground where you can buy all... Our teenage grandkids lived hiking around this lake and also kayaking and stand-up boarding. We were told you could swim in the lake but it looked murky and a camper told us there are leeches in the lake so we didn't swim. The view from the end of the lake looking toward the snow capped peak of Lassen mountains is... More

Never stayed there because, while the lake is beautiful, it feels more like a small town than a campground.
