I would list this as one of our favorite things to do while we were in Maui. I agree with many other posts stating to do this particular adventure one of your first days in Maui while still adjusting to the time differences. Getting up at 3 AM just wasn't that difficult. We drove from Kihei which was a couple... More

The Haleakala crater is probably one of the most beautiful places on Maui - the trip up the mountain on a bus was fun (great tour guide!) and the view from the top is like something from another world. HOWEVER.... I honestly wish I hadn't gone up there for the sunrise. The beauty of the place is completely ruined by... More

I would recommend this to anyone but its best to do the sunrise on your first day before you change over to local time. I also recommend biking down after you visit.

One of the prettiest mornings I have ever seen with my wife. Only bad part was how early you have to leave to get there for sunrise and it's cold!!!!

There was a big group of us in Maui for a wedding (30+) and many of our travel companions went to the crater to see the sunrise and gave us some helpful tips: - Dress warmly, in layers. Pants, t-shirt, sweater, jacket, and more if you're susceptible to cold. It is chilly at the top compared to the rest of... More

Beautiful and exciting. Not something you see every day. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and had a fun time. Will do it again.

If you want to see the most amazing sunrise, go to Haleakala Crater. But DO NOT BE LATE! We saw many cars in a line trying to get up last minute and in a few minutes, you miss the whole thing. Very chilly for us so bring sweatshirts/pants/blankets.

It is very important that you get there early and make sure you have a full tank of gas the night before. We left at 3:00 the first lot was full and we had two turn around and just barley got in the second lot. The fee was 15.00. But man it was worth it, I got some amazing photo's.... More

We got up very early and drove up to the crater to watch the sunrise. It was really beautiful and we were able to get some fantastic photos up there. Bring a sweater if you go up. It was around 52 degrees out and we froze!

We did the sunrise and it was beyond AMAZING. We were warned, so we dressed in ski jackets, with thermals under our clothes, and gloves. We also brought a big blanket, so we were very comfortable, not cold. The view was spectacular! Get there at least an hour before sunrise if you want a parking spot at the peak and... More
