You don't want to miss this amazing sight although it can be cold at the top so be prepared. There were many clouds the day we visited to the view changed by the minute. The drive up is amazing too.

This trip was worthwhile going up to the crater. Beautiful scenery, at some point we felt like were into the clouds and it was a sight that was stunning. You have camp sites there where you can rent and watch both the sunset and sunrise. The higher you go, the cooler it gets with the elevation. Take a sweater with... More

I hiked down this amazing trail on September 6, 2014. Trailhead is at the Visitor Center at the top of the crater. There are restrooms and potable water, there, if you need to take care of business before heading out. The trail goes some 9 miles before intersecting the Kaupo Trail at Paliku cabin and campground. I hiked about 3... More

it's really early :) If you're going to do that, and you're traveling east to west, go early in your trip so the jet lag will make the early hour seem normal. I've been at sunrise and during the day - its stunning (and cold) eitheer way - bring a sweatshirt

The ride to the top is great, fill up before you go. The best place to see the rise is at the first parking lot visitor center before the summit. Get there early to secure a good space at the railing, do not leave or the space will be taken. It gets chilly so wear some layers . have the... More

We did the drive up to the crater for the sunset and it was amazing! I was hesitant at first as to taking a tour up there or driving ourselves. The road up is windy and some parts dont have railing, as long as you drive carefully you are fine. We tried to get there for the sunrise, gps said... More

A nice, well maintained highway goes all the way up to the visitor center where you will see awesome views above the clouds! A little over 10,000 feet , take a jacket for comfort .

This crater is magnificent but to really appreciate it force yourself to venture out at 3am and catch the sunrise (though I've been told its pretty spectacular during the sunset as well). It feels other worldly hiking up to the summit before dawn and we were fortunate enough to be there during the "Super Moon" which made it all the... More

The sunrise at Haleakala is well worth the early rise! If you go all the way to the summit (last parking lot), it fills up quite quickly so you may need to leave earlier than you think. There is no bathroom at the summit. It will be cold, so be sure to take a coat, blanket, towel or something! There... More
