We have seen the morning sunrise which you need to get there early and it is VERY cold yet so beautiful. This year we went to the sunset which was cooler in temp but not freezing- about 45 degrees at top. The view was spectacular as it was a cloudier day below yet you are above the clouds. The colors... Easy to follow the winding 2-lane road to the summit where on a clear day one can see the Big Islsnd. Once there we felt we are on the moon or another plant. The views were remarkable. Ample parking and paths to the visitors center. There are well-marked instructive signs as well. Younger members of the family went for the... More

This is a must destination when you're on Maui. You don't need to watch the sun rise to appreciate the beauty of this mountain. On a clear day you can see Molokai, Lanai, and the Big Island.

My son and husband took the van tour up to the top. They loved the experience! They saw several people on bikes, so if you are a cyclist you should definitely check with the local bike shops.

I highly recommend the Haleakala Switchback trail. We hiked to the crater floor and had lunch and then hiked back out. it's about a 4 hour hike with amazing views of the crater.

Excellent view. A must see if you are in Maui. We did not go for sunrise since we had our 8 month old daughter with us. We went during the day and the view was still great

Me and my girlfriends drove to the Haleakala crater summit which is 10000 feet above sea level. We left Kihei at 215am and arrived at around 4.30am. The road to the summit is all paved but very windy. Be wary that there are not street lights on the road up to the summit and some places do not have bariers.... More

at >10000 feet this is a must if you are on Maui. Its a fair hike and our smaller rental car was struggling up some of the hills. Worth checking the weather to make your ascent on the clearest day possible so you can see the island and the peaks of the neighbouring big island Hawai'i. It is worth exploring... More

This is a must do! My wife and I visited last year for the sunrise and bike down the mountain. This year we brought my teen age son and his best friend. They both wanted to experience the sunrise. We departed our hotel in Lahaina at 4:00 AM arriving just in time. We had a very wonderful experience watching the... More

You need to see the sunrise!! It is out of this world! You need to dress warm. Take a tour since you will need extra time to park and have a good spot to take pictures. In addition, you will need to be close to the park office with a gift shop to warm up because it will be COLD!... More
