We stopped at Fanny Farkles to get a corndog and took them up to Metcalf Bottoms picnic area by the river. This is a lovely picnic area and lots of trails and old cabins to explore. The picnic area wasn't busy at all and we were the only ones there. It was cloudy out and a few rain drops here... More

A great place to picnic and swim with children. Well maintained facility. There are times however, it is difficult to stake a claim on a table and that would be Memorial Day and Labor Day. The locals picnic here on these days quite heavily so have a back up spot planned if wanting to visit during those periods.

In addition to being a very popular spot for wading in the river, Metcalf Bottoms is a great chance to stop and have a meal on your way to or from Cades Cove or Gatlinburg. There are some tables along the river, and some that are not.

Get out of the car and campground and walk these hills. This is a beautiful area; we got onto and up the trails out of Metcalf Bottoms to see the ridges above which were quiet and peaceful.

Our family has used Metcalf Bottoms as our picnic spot in the past, and the riverside location makes a perfect spot for the kiddos to splash in the water. Our October visit to Metcalf Bottoms was surprisingly quiet. On a Monday evening, there was no one else around as we grilled our steaks and enjoyed reading next to the river.... More

This was a nice place to hang out on a hot afternoon. The kids just loved playing in the water and on the rocks. Would be a great all-day activity for very little $$. Don't forget water shoes, inner tubes, and bug spray.

It is a nice place to have a picnic and to play in the stream. It is not too far from Cades Cove and Cove Mountain and is home to the trailhead to Little Greenbriar School. Very enjoyable.

We looked in the Gatlinburg forums here on Tripadvisor for places nearby to have some nature time. We wanted to have a spot by a stream so we could wade or swim since it was a hot one. Found Metcalf Bottoms and it sounded perfect! Planned ahead and packed what we needed for a grilled burger picnic. We left Gburg... More

Read about this as a swimming hole, but this is more of a wading hole- good for kids- lots of rocks (wear wet shoes) but a good place to cool off on a hot summer's day and have a picnic lunch. And it's all FREE! There are picnic tables and they do have restrooms, which are far and few between... More

We visited the park while on vacation staying at one of the log cabins nearby. The park is right on one of the many rivers flowing through the Smoky Mountain National Forest. The park is located on the North side of the forest right where the road from Wears Valley comes into the Forest. It's a great place to relax... More
