Short cut to Wears Valley

If you go over the one lane bridge and follow the road you are in Wears Valley. This helps at certain times especially when a craft fair or something is going on.

This is a great picnic area by the Little River. There's restrooms, lots of picnic tables by the river. It seems to less popular than the Chimneys picnic area. There's several trailheads also & a short drive to the Little Greenbriar school. You have to cross a one car bridge to get to it. All in all a nice place... More

One of the favorite places in the Smokies. You can get to it either from Wears Valley Road or Little River Road. It has lots of picnic tables, a pavilion, a stream along the side, and even bathrooms. The stream is great for tubing, wading, or building rock dams...the kids love it. Great way to spend a day just relaxing.

We have visited and lived in the area over the years and this has always been one of the best kept secrets. Tourist are starting to come more frequently but it is usually not as crowded as the others and during the summer is a local swimming hole. The area is well maintained and just a short drive to wears... More

This is a very nice well maintained area located just off the Little River Road. There are lots of tables some of which are very close to the river. It's a great place to relax, have a picnic and just listen to the water running in the river.

We stopped at Fanny Farkles to get a corndog and took them up to Metcalf Bottoms picnic area by the river. This is a lovely picnic area and lots of trails and old cabins to explore. The picnic area wasn't busy at all and we were the only ones there. It was cloudy out and a few rain drops here... More

A great place to picnic and swim with children. Well maintained facility. There are times however, it is difficult to stake a claim on a table and that would be Memorial Day and Labor Day. The locals picnic here on these days quite heavily so have a back up spot planned if wanting to visit during those periods.

In addition to being a very popular spot for wading in the river, Metcalf Bottoms is a great chance to stop and have a meal on your way to or from Cades Cove or Gatlinburg. There are some tables along the river, and some that are not.

Get out of the car and campground and walk these hills. This is a beautiful area; we got onto and up the trails out of Metcalf Bottoms to see the ridges above which were quiet and peaceful.
