First, I want to thank previous reviews psoted for Mount LeConte. The info provided here were very helpful. My husband and I were inspired and made this hike via Alum Cave trail in April.
The weather in early April was perfect for hiking, sunny and warm. There are plenty of variations in landscape to keep us interested. However, it was...

Mount LeConte is a unique experience. If you love outdoors and want a really outdoor experience sans tent but yet still rustic you've got to put this on your bucket list. The Smokies are a must see and Mount LeConte brings the fellowship of outdoor lovers together at the top of LeConte in cabins with no electricity but plenty of...

LeConte is a lovely view from many areas at the north side of the Smokies Nat. Park. If you are a hiker, you can even park the car and take a trail to the top for an overnight stay in the lodge!

I must say that I wasn't thinking we could pull off the 6.5 mile hike (with kids, age 7 and 8) to the lodge, but we made it. The hike was nice but the rustic, electricity-free, cell-phone-free, cabins were wonderful to sleep in. The family dinner and breakfast were most appreciated and everyone there was quite helpful and friendly. If...

Plan your day hike in mid January to avoid the crowds and to see the trail and peaks in snow. Plan to stay in the area 3-4 days so you can go up within a day of a snow. Rainbow Falls trail up and Bullhead Trail down brings you back to the same parking lot in about 6.5 hours for...

I have taken the Alum Cave- Mt. LeConte trail two times now. Both times we have yet to actually see anything when we arrive at the top of Mt. LeConte because there is so much smog. Nevertheless, the hike is still stunningly beautiful. There are fantastic views and variations (streams, the cave, etc.); just don't expect a stunning view at...

If you're a serious hiker, then Mt. LeConte is a must do if you're visiting the Smokies. It's a long, tough grind to the top. Along the hike is Alum Cave, which isn't really a cave but a bluff, which offers incredible views as well. We've hiked Mt. LeConte in the spring and also in the winter. I would strongly...

Be sure that if you plan to stay at the lodge that you have a reservation as it is usually booked a year or more in advance. I stress that you bring energy snacks, waqter and have excellent hiking footwear; sandals (including flip-flops) and "heels" are ill-advised. Also, if time and energy permit, don't miss Myrtle Point. You can't beat...

I took my 2 young children (5 and 7) on this hike with a group from our church. My kids are excellent hikers, so I don't suggest this to ALL families with children of this age. Our hike to the top was great. We took the Alum Bluff trail. The first part had numerous points to get some great pictures...
