Drive from lodge to point takes about 45 minutes. It is one of the windey-est roads I’ve ever driven on. Got there for sunset and there were about 10 people, mostly all camera geeks looking for that one great shot. It was full moon and the canyon with full moon rising was incredible to see. Excellent place to view sunset.... More

This area is closed for the rest of the season due to road damage. A big disappointment. But we were lucky, the entire park is closed now due to the government shutdown.

By the time we got to the North Rim, the last thing we wanted to do was sit in a car any longer. We went to the lodge, grabbed a mocha for the road and headed up to Cape Royal. Thank goodness we did! The best pictures we took were at this trail (including the ones of my husband pretending... More

After doing some longer hikes the day before, we set our eyes on something easier. Cape Royal Trail is a flat paved trail, but the views are still spectacular. One of the best views is of Angel's Window. The end of the trail, which brings you out on top of Angel's Window, is great, allowing you to see almost a... More

If you come to the North Rim and not take this trail you will have missed a lot. The views were extraordinary and with a summer storm brewing in the canyon, it felt very cool(cold for a southerner). You could take pictures of the storm over the Canyon one way and you look the other way and the Canyon was... More

If you never see the Canyon from any other vantage point you will be completely satisfied with this one. It is a short walk on a groomed trailed where you get to see spectacular views including Angels Window. It's quite a drive up but absolutely worth the distance.

Plan 1.5 hours to do this right. Restrooms at very end (Cape Royal). Do hit all of the paved pullouts. Each has its own unique view. None were repetitive. Do go out on all of the paved or semi-paved viewing platforms - to the end. All are worth it. At Cape Royal, go to both viewing platforms (you will see... More

Cape Royal Trail is at the end of 20 miles of winding road, but it is worth the drive. It is a short well paved trail that affords access to some stunning overlooks to just about anyone of any age. Angel's Window a natural arch that frames the Colorado River in the background is just a few yards off of... More

A short 0.3 mile hike brings you to an overlook where you can see the plateau in the distance and the Colorado River at the bottom. Angels Window is also along this trail.
