What a tourist trap!!! Pay a little extra and take a helicopter ride straight from Vegas. We wasted a whole day driving which was fine, until we got there to see what a rip off it was. $20.00 to park on a gravel road, it was only $7.00 at Hoover Dam to park inside a mountain. From this gravel road... more

Had a very bad experience on my trip to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon. Since our time was limited we decided to go by car from Las Vegas to the West Rim. The last 14 miles of the road are just horrible and when you finally reach your destination you will encounter a real rip off. To park... more

We visited the West Rim on 9 June 2008. Here are a few tips should you wish to visit:- Be aware that once the road runs out you have to drive at least 20 miles on a sandy, unpaved road. If it is your own car our advice would be don't do it. On arriving at the Rim you are... more

My family drove to the West Rim to see the Grand Canyon. We were never told you could not see anything unless you paid alot of extra money for there tours. We paid the $20 parking after driving there 20 miles of dirt road, walked to the office to get info and found you could not see anymore unless paid... more

Very pretty, but not worth these prices. Also no one tells you that you can not just drive up and see the canyon. The prices are over inflated and they tell you where you can and can not look or bring a camera more

We're from Hawaii so we drove the shortest distance we could on our recent trip (7/3/06) to Las Vegas to get to the Grand Canyon. The choice was the West Rim of the Grand Canyon, approximately 2 1/2 hours. We're not used to long road trips. This was an adventure and I'm glad we did it. Packed with snacks, sandwiches,... more

This review is not specifically about the West Rim Drive, but rather about how you can make a day trip to the West Rim from Las Vegas. The West Rim is the most feasible way to see the Grand Canyon in a day (about 3hrs’ drive one-way) if you are staying at Las Vegas since the drive to the South... more

I have never seen anything so spectacular! The west rim was rustic, rugged, natural and beautiful country. My family took a bus tour from Las Vegas to the West Rim (approx 3 hours with stops). As we rounded the corner nearing the canyon, the tour guide was playing "National Anthem" and there it was....the grand canyon in all it's majesty!... more

A great shttle bus system allows you to stop at any or all of the 7 view points, and spend as much time as you like at each one. A path (some sections paved) allows you to walk between views if you prefer. We saw two California Condors soaring above Hermit's Rest! more
