Located in northwest Arizona and arguably the world's most popular (and splendid) natural tourist attraction, the massive Canyon is 277 miles long, 18 miles wide, and at its deepest point, is more than a mile from rim to river. Most of the Canyon lies within Grand Canyon National Park and is managed by the National Park Service. It incorporates three geographically separated areas: the South Rim, the North Rim and the inner canyon.

On Sunday, March 1 our guide and driver, Harold did an unbelievable job of taking us to Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon. The snow started coming down pretty hard but it did not stop Harold - he kept going and we all appreciated it. Because, once we got to the Grand Canyon the views were spectacular. I would highly... There is nowhere in the world like this - it is simply too good for superlatives! Would I return - you bet, again and again.

From the first step onto the Kaibab trail the beauty and awesome view cannot be captured on camera. No other way to see this but to hike the trail. Grandeur and majesty would not be enough to describe the vista. Seven plus miles to the Phantom ranch located in a beautifully treed side canyon. The accommodations are rustic, comfortable and clean.... More

Fantastic views. Tons of asian tourists taking pictures of everything and everybody. Get away from the main lookouts and explore. The wildlife is everywhere. Deer will walk right up to you without being afraid. Saw small herd of Elk on the way out of the park.

The Canyon is inspiring and beautiful. But sometimes can be disappointing. I have heard people say the colors are not there. the problem is they do not stay long enough to watch the cluds and sun change the view right before your eyes

It is totally cliché but this place doesn't look real. When you stand on the edge of what in reality is a monumental precipice, you don't get that rush of blood that you'd expect. Honestly, it just doesn't look real. Don't get me wrong, this is one of the few panoramas that everyone should see once in their lifetime. We... More

What I can say, I was on vacation in Las Vegas and decided to drive to the Grand Canyon National Park for almost 5 hours. Woke up 5am to see an amazing place! Carry a bottle of water with you and a sun protector as well. Depending on the season, it's very hot.

The sight of it is breathtakingly amazing especially if you get up early and see the sunrise and stay later into the night to see the sundown at Grand Canyon. Also, in the morning there are great sights of animals roaming throughout the park. In addition, the hikes down the numerous trails are great adventures for families.

You always hear about the Grand Canyon, but nothing prepares you for it. Pictures don't do it justice. It's something you have to experience with your own eyes. We didn't have time to do tours or spend days there (which I can't really imagine is necessary) but just spending a few hours standing there, taking it in, and hiking a... More

I had seen it in movies but nothing can compare to seeing it in person. Everyone should see it at least once in their life. We rented a convertible in Vegas and drove to the South rim of the canyon. Absolutely breathtaking.

First of all, apologies if this has been asked before but I couldn't find the answer and am getting lost in a deluge of Googling. And thanks in advance for anyone who can assist.

I want to visit the Grand Canyon early August (damned hot I know, this is a part of my problem), I will be coming from Vegas.

I'd like to do one or two things; first to get down onto the Canyon. I suspect its too hot to do a proper walking tour (which was my initial preference) but I have found some great 4WD tours, that also let you get your feet dirty, so to speak. They sound awesome.

Second thing I'd love to do is do a hot air balloon trip over the Canyon (would prefer this over a helicopter, although helicopter is my back up plan).

Okay, this is where things start to get tricky - am I right thinking that hot air balloon trips don't run from the standard tourist place (whatever that is, excuse my ignorance trying to work all this out)? From what I can see they run from places like Sedona and Phoenix rather than areas closer to Vegas.

Then how do I get from Vegas to the Canyon? It looks like its a long-ish trip and I need to find a balance between money to get there and time spent getting there. Assuming you do everything from what I'm assuming is the more central tourist part, is it possible to do a day trip from Vegas or does it need an overnight stay?

If balloon rides go from places like Sedona I'm guessing that complicates my getting there/away options as well.

Sorry if this is a bit confused, particularly on the geography but any advice on timings, travel or awesome trips to do would be very much appreciated. Thanks y'all!
