Fire Damage in the area

It is a pretty lake but we were there just after the recent fire. A lot of the sites in the area are closed but it is still a must see.

On the 4th day, we were tuckered out from hiking, so we decided to take the boat from the Rising Sun campground area. It was well worth it. Bring the good camera!

St..Mary lake is beautiful and about completly ringed with mountains. We took an excellent boat ride w high was very nice even tho somewhat shorter than usual because of the Fire. Many observation lookouts are closed because of the fire and thus was not a problem on tge boat

We took our chances and went on the waiting list. It is better to get reservations. The boat ride was interesting and provided stops for us to hike to a waterfall. You can choose different types of hikes pending on your level, some with a ranger. That adds to the boat ride event.

We are going back, just to say we actually stayed and explored the hamlet of St.Mary, the attractions, the beautiful glacial lake, and the campgrounds. We stopped long enough to fuel up, and have an ice cream at St.Mary Lodge & Resort, but, we will be back to stay a couple days, and see the eights!

We walked down a path to the waters edge and it was gorgeous. Crystal Blue glacial water with gorgeous red, green and purple stones on the bottom!!!

St. Mary Lake is so beautiful and the rocky beaches are equally amazing. Spend an evening on the beachfront after dinner one night, it's an excellent place to enjoy the evening and make memories.

Go on the boat ride and you hike to 3 waterfalls. The hikes are easy. They do take some time and the last boat leaves at 5:00 pm so take an earlier boat and spend some time enjoying the waterfalls. They are spectacular.

Not one of the best lakes in the park, but the views are great nonetheless. Try hiking down from going to the sun road and expect to see some wildlife during twilight hours. Couple of vista points provide great views.

Pictures can not do justice- a miraculous place. We stopped by on trip back to West Glacier from Many Glacier via Going to the Sun Road. Wish we could have spent more time- it is possible to swim in the lake- although be prepared it is quite cold! Not to be missed if you are lucky enough to be visiting... More
