Spent a great 3 days camping, hiking and canoeing. Would highly recommend staying. Get there early to get a good site as it will fill up towards the end of the day. Great hike up to the Numa lookout, but take your bear spray. We saw multiple signs of bears in the area, but no direct visual sightings. Plenty of... More

about 7 miles from Polebridge on a very rough dirt road but you don't need to have 4x4 just watch for oncoming traffic since it is basically one lane road. worth the trouble and staying the whole day. ton of huckleberries.

Wow, what a beautiful place is Bowman Lake, hidden in far less populated corner of Glacier National Park, what a treat. The lake is beautiful and the trip to the lake is fantastic. We can't wait to go back again. I wanted to address the roads first, as my wife and I were almost turned away by what we read... More

We took the long, rough journey to Bowman Lake - thinking we were in the middle of nowhere... We were surprised to arrive at a bustling campground and hiking area. The lake was lovely but we did not see any opportunity for canoe or kayak rental - would have been nice.... We took a short hike to the patrol cabin... More

What a gorgeous reward after a fun drive! As is mentioned in previous posts, the road there is fun to say the least! Don't take your lowered car for this trip! Curves, potholes, tight roads, single lane with oncoming traffic, tight switchbacks...but worth it! Don't forget to take all of your supplies with you as there is nothing out there...and... More

Who in the right mind would say something awful about Bowman Lake? The road to get there is designed so no big cars, buses, or most rv's can't get there. It's like that so this lake would remain in pristine condition for many years and not get too overrated with tourists, which is a wonderful thing. People are complaining about... More

Getting to Bowman Lake requires some intestinal fortitude and willingness to take your vehicle on a less than regular dirt road. It's part of the fun but a bit unnerving since you can easily find yourself face to face with another vehicle on a narrow road with lots of ruts. Growing up in an area like this made me a... More

We heard this was The Lake to see so we decided to check it out. First you go through a lot of the park that was burned in 2002 and you can see how devastating the fire was. The new growth is takiing it's time but is growing back. The road is part paved and part dirt. Once you get... More

Bowman Lake is a gorgeous piece of real estate. That said, the 5 mile road to Bowman is NOT sedan safe. The size of the pot holes in the road were rough in my Subaru I can't imagine attempting it in a sedan. I did see other folks trying it, but I wouldn't recommend it. The lake is gorgeous, but... We had a full size SUV that was made for rugged and tough terrain. So the crazy, narrow, dusty dirt road wasn't too terrible to plow through. The campground is really nice but be prepared to use a can of OFF to keep the mosquitoes away. They are ruthless!!! Other than that, I really liked this campground and it's nice... More
