We stopped at the Big Cypress visitor centre and watched a short film there, which was interesting and the ranger there suggested we go to the Oasis Visitor Centre because there are always gators in the water there. We had told him we were planning to drive the loop road, so maybe he thought we'd have more luck at the... More

Really enjoyed finding the Alligators, Turtles and birds by ourselves via this Loop Rd. Entered it close to Shark Valley and have to say that the vast majority of what we saw was between aprox 8-10 miles in. After that, virtually nothing. What we did see on that two mile stretch was totally amazing. Go do it...

We had 3 days in the Everglades and having read the reviews on this site we were expecting the Loop Road Drive to be the highlight of the trip - but it wasn't. The vegetation cover on both sides of the track was quite thick and we were surprised how few openings there were to actually look into the swamp.... More

It is really worth driving, although most of the road is unpaved. It seems it is a main reason for emptiness of the drive - very few cars, very quiet. Wonderfull nature, a lot of birds everywhere. Aligators in the ditches and walking the street. Watch for owls taking sun bath in the middle of the road. They seem hurt/sick... More

When you plan a trip through the Everglades, plan 2-3 hours to take the Loop Road. It's amazing. We spent three hours traveling the 24-mile road this week, and the time went by much too quickly. We started the loop at the western end, and within the first half mile, we saw a huge alligator sunning itself at the edge... More

A must if you want to see land in the raw: completely untouched and unspoilt by mankind. The quietness of life was just a joy. All you hear is the wildlife, and so much of it. The road is part dirt-track and part Tarmac and both are fine for car or cycle. Don't rush. Stop at every opening and you... More

We took a slow cruise down loop road and had a chance to see all kinds of wildlife, and almost no people. On the road about 90 minutes and saw only 3 other cars! Great photo ops as there are so few cars and you can stay on the asphalt safe and shoot the canals on both sides. Just a... More

Started on US 41 in Miami and went West. We got on the Loop road past the Shark Valley Visitor Center. The Loop road is not marked from 41. The ranger told us to turn when we saw the white cross and bear right. It took us to the Loop road. The road was paved and then turned to gravel... More

It is 78 degrees and my wife and I are heading back to ice and snow in South Carolina. We hate to leave. The past few days in Big Cypress National Preserve have been amazing. Beautiful weather. Amazing Wildlife - Alligators, wonderfully colorful birds and even a snake or two. Be sure to take the Loop Road at mile marker... More

If you are driving US 41 then give yourself an extra 2 hours and cruise loop road with your camera handy. It is a 24 mile dirt road and the only rest rooms are close to the Collier County end. There were bird species aplenty and even a few gators. The view goes from prairie to wetlands to swamp and... More
