Our visit to the park, where we camped for 2 nights, was a joy from beginning to end. The reservation staff were efficient and friendly, answering all my questions with insight and humor! I was concerned with the no cars policy at the park - but the bus system was great and had the advantage of no traffic hang ups... more

We took a bus ride within the park. It was nice enough. Our tour guide was very enthusastic (almost scarily so) and helpful. We saw a wolf and a good number of moose, kinda cool to this city (well, suburbia) boy. The highlight was just staring off at Mt. McKinley. It was FAR in the distance (30-40 miles?) but still... more

Sorry we have been out of touch but we have been out of network coverage since we were in Seward. First let me catch you up on a few things. The restaurant in Homer was called The Sourdough Express. It was a great place for lunch. I had the best reuben sandwich I have ever eaten. The halibut sandwich was... more

Our extended family of 12 spent our second morning at the Denali visitor's center before returning on the train back to Anchorage. We took a free shuttle from our hotel, checked in a couple of bags for $1/hr, then took a shuttle to the dog sled demonstration at 10am. Our kids got to see & pet several Alaskan huskies, and we... more

Rode the shuttle out to Eilson with my wife in July, 2009. We were afraid we might get a little stir crazy on the 8 hour round trip, but we were pleasantly surprised. They stop often enough to get out and stretch. We took a 6:00am bus and were very lucky to see some wildlife out the way out, but... more

I would not adivse taking the 9 1/2 train from Whittier to Princess Lodge. It was so long and so slow. They constantly stopped for other trains. It was unusually hot that day and at one point the electric went out to the whole train. No air and no food. It was unbearably hot in the sky dome and we... more

The Visitor Center at DNP has a lot to offer. First off, they have a fantastic group of rangers that are willing to answer or find the answer to any question. The visitor center itself has many displays as well as a theater. They show the seasons of DNP in the theater, it is only 17 mins., but a good... more

Denali is a true treasure. It has been protected and remains a magnificant wilderness. Amazing place to visit. We enjoyed the tour by bus and saw a large variety of native plants and wildlife. Our guide was from Alaska, had wintered over and really made it special. more

We opted for the hop-on/hop-off tour into the park offered by the Denali Visitors Center. I couldn't see doing it any other way! We were allowed to jump off and hike around anywhere we wanted, and just had to flag down the next bus when we saw it! It was so easy and definitely the cheapest option ($50 for the... more

This blended cafeteria, coffee shop, deli, grill adjancent to the Visitor center offers a great Denali dining option. With breakfast available at the coffee counter (bagel egg/bacon style sandwiches), yogurt and fruit at the deli deli counter, and plenty of other food options throughout the day, this site is often overlooked. With indoor seating or wonderful outdoor tables/umbrella seating, this... more
