I was surprised at the access that we had to pet the dogs. The demonstration was fun to watch, and it was quite interesting to hear about how they are trained, what the dogs real jobs are, and where they go when they are no longer suited for dog sledding. Well worth a visit.

Every day, rain or shine, the Denali kennels put on dog sled demos at 10AM, and 2 and 4 PM. Pet the dogs, see the puppies, and watch a dog team run pulling a sled. Kids love it and so does everyone else. Take the free bus or walk. Driving is possible, but discouraged because parking is limited.

This was a very informative and lively demonstration. The kids loved being able to pet the dogs and learned about dog sledding.

This is not one of the "paid" sled dog experiences you may see during your Denali research, and that's a good thing. These are the National Park dogs, trained and care for by Park Rangers whose sole duty is to keep these dogs prepared for work (rescue and otherwise) in Denali during the harsh Alaska winter. Three times a day,... More

We really enjoyed this demonstration. We didn't take the shuttle bus because we prefer to be on our own timetable and we like walking, so we went to the sled dog site on our own about 40 minutes before the scheduled start time. We had a chance to walk around the kennels without the shuttle bus crowd for a half... More

Great introduction to how Sled Dogs are trained and raised. Well planned and presented information. Also information about how the Iditirod is run, complete with movie clips. We even got to see and hold the 3 week old puppies.

If you like dogs, this is a 'must-do' when you go to Denali. I took the shuttle from the visitor centre and it turned out that the driver (a woman) is an Ice Road Trucker in the off season. Bonus! What an amazing lady! (Watch Ice Road Truckers on TV). There's plenty of time to pat the dogs, wander around... More
