Owner description: Enjoy a warm welcome and experience a true Alaskan lifestyle at Husky Homestead, home of Iditarod Champion Jeff King. This tour is widely heralded as an authentic look into rural lifestyles based on 35 years of Alaskan adventures: from freight hauling on Denali to crossing the finish line in Nome with a champion Iditarod team. Be greeted by cuddly puppies and share an intimate view of the Alaskan Husky as they explode from the kennel on a training run. Get a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into creating a championship team and carving a life in Alaska's Interior. Hear compelling stories from the trail and see actual racing sleds, arctic survival gear and equipment used to traverse 1100 miles of Alaska's most rugged terrain. Our 2015 tour season begins on May 12 and will end on September 17th.

How can they miss when they hand you a husky puppy the moment you arrive? The husky pups alone were worth the price of admission. We booked this tour at the last minute, really because we had nothing else to do that evening. We were so pleasantly surprised when the program was very informative and entertaining. Jeff is a hoot.... More

My wife and I went to see the sled dogs at the Husky Homestead. My wife and I enjoyed seeing the puppies and learning what it takes to run the race but we had gone to see the dogs at Denali National Park the day before and could have skipped this one.

As lovers of rescue dogs we were concerned it was going to basically be a puppy mill to please tourists. Once we arrived, we felt a lot better about it, as they seemed very responsible and the dogs well cared for. We were able to hold a 12 day old puppy and some one and two month old puppies. They... We love dogs and were both delighted to be handed a husky puppy as we got off our bus ride. Impressed that Jeff King did the majority of the presentation and learned a lot about the training and the race itself. The dogs are beautiful and the staff were very friendly and informative.

We are true dog lovers, and we really loved this excursion. I certainly had a wrong idea of sled dogs and "mushing", but we learned so much. It's all about the dogs- the mushers are secondary. They are very friendly, people-oriented dogs, and clearly are very well treated and well taken care of. We really enjoyed learning about the Iditarod... More

We were picked up by Jeff King, in a small bus and transported to Husky Homestead. Each visitor is given a puppy to hold and they take your picture (available for purchase at $25 later). Jeff King gives a talk, outside, with demonstrations of his dogs tricks including hitching them to a 4 wheeler vehicle and they pull it around... More

Well worth the charge. The dogs were fantastic. I fell educated about dog sledding and the courageous people involved. Highly suggested.

Fun activity to do alone or with a family! Everyone on the staff is really fun and love what they do. Jeff King talked a bit and he is really enthusiastic about what he does and loves meeting his visitors!

Picked up from hotel by shuttle bus, driven by Chase, one of the dog team trainer/riders. Straight off bus handed a puppy to fuss, they need to be socialised so strangers handling them are perfect. Then a talk about the dogs, how they are trained, chosen and feeding. Dogs are chosen from those in the kennel area to actually pull... More
