pretty little cabin with amazing view! often crowded - first come, first served. no water nearby. rough road from east, horrid road up Golar wash and over Mengle Pass.

Geologists cabin is in the southern reaches of Death Valley. Accessed either through the NP from the East or from the West through Goler Wash Goler is a very serious 4wh drive. When we were approaching Geologist's cabin from the east we were stopped by 4 wild burros at the spring in front of the cabin. We paused, took several minutes of video and still pictures. One of the burros, a brown one, has a right ear that hangs down. Makes him/her look kind of comical. We didn't get a good look... More

we came in the "back" way through goler wash in a trusty new japanese 4wd SUV. made it with just a couple hairy moments.... but the cabin took the cake...saw a kit fox or a small coyote drinking from the spring just west of the cabin. we arrived on the weekend right after sept. 11 and flew the american flag...
