Went to Rattlesnake Springs near sunset as the park ranger said it was a birding spot. He was right in that we saw a flock of nearly a hundred turkeys and 6 deer. Would highly recommend for a short visit after the cave.

Rattlesnake Springs is such a wonderful oasis in the desert. It is on the way to Carlsbad Caverns and it is a great spot for a family picnic. Lot of picnic tables. Bathroom is a potty and there is a water fountain. No sinks to wash your hands. The girls loved exploring the area. Nice break from a long drive.

This is an idyllic setting; very beautiful. We had a picnic lunch here. We saw a herd of deer and a flock of wild turkeys. The drive to this place was beautiful and I had to restrain myself from taking plant and see samples from the landscape ! I only took lots of photos. November is a wonderful time of... More

This little day use park is so lovely, it's definitely worth the short drive out of your way as you are driving to or from other attractions such as Carlsbad Caverns (it's actually on this park's grounds) or Guadalupe Mts National Park (TX). En route to both of those bigger attractions, we stopped here three days in a row to... More

It's another 15 minutes or so past Carlsbad Caverns. We went late in the day, hoping to see wildlife. We didn't see any deer, but we did see a couple of families of wild turkeys. Looks like a nice place for a picnic.

This area just a few minutes outside the Carlsbad National Park main entrance at Whites City. It has several picnic tables under the shade of large trees, lots of birds, water, and clean toilets. Just what you'd want for a picnic lunch area.

Rattlesnake Springs was a nice shift from spending so much time in the depths of Carlsbad Caverns. The water in the pool was clear and fish can be seen amongst the algae. There is no swimming or fishing there, though, not that I would want to do either, The water was very warm to someone who is used to cold... More

We were told it was a good place to see more wildlife. Went late afternoon, saw several varieties of birds, ducks, wild turkeys, lots of deer, a roadrunner. Also stopped by a very old cemetery along the way. Was a good outing if interested in just hanging around with your eyes open to see what nature shows you.

I knew we had to visit Rattlesnake Springs when two rangers who were birders looked at us like we were crazy for never having been there. As we turned onto the road leading to the picnic area and springs, deer and wild turkeys were everywhere. We could have stayed at the picnic area for hours and been entertained by numerous... More
