We only had a couple of hours to investigate the park. Made a stop at Dead Horse basin and then traveled a few more miles into the Canyonlands Park. Wish we had more time to explore all the different vistas. But what we saw was enough to make us want to return for a day or more. We noticed that... More

A friend and I went on the Lathrop Trail which is over 12 miles round trip. We should have brought lighter packs as the hike back up the trail kills your quads but it really rewarding after. It's been a over four days since my trip and I can still feel some pain in my joints and I am only... More

We had previously backpacked in the Needles, but this was our first trip to Island in the Sky. There are a LOT of short hikes that are great for kids. I highly recommend Whale Rock. There is a good amount of slick rock scrambling that our daughter loved. Great views from the top! We also did Upheaval Dome view point.... More

Compared to the awesome scenery of Monument Valley and Arches, I was a little disappointed with the northern section of this park. However my trip into the Needles section along Hwy 211 made the visit worthwhile for me. And for those with limited mobility you may want to skip the nearby Dead Horse Point State Park.

What a beautiful park! Gorgeous cliffs and views for miles. It has the feel of the Grand Canyon, though not as deep, but the views go on forever. Also the park is huge, divided into 3 large districts, Island in sky, Needles and the Maze. You could spend a lifetime exploring here if you wanted. It is certainly worth several... More

Great park to visit early in the morning - the views are breath-taking especially at the Green River Overlook. Grand View is also spectacular. You see forever - and the view is large valleys with lots of mesas and mountains in the distance. Nice park with some short hikes - longer into the canyon if you are up to it.... More

This National Park is good. Not amazing but good. Its like being sorrounded and driving by little canyons. I liked it because it reminded me to all those movies of the wild west. Its the same scenary!! If you have time, you should go. If not, better go to arches and great grand canyon

UTAH SR211 AND THE NEEDLES (UTAH’S HIDDEN BYWAYS III) When I think about the most amazing roads that I have driven, and roads that I would like to see over and over again, another great byway that I think about UTAH SR211 south of Moab, Utah. This road is not well traveled past a certain point, even though it leads... More

We visited the Island in the Sky mesa. This was way high up and afforded us amazing views of massive buttes, more sandstones cliffs, the Green and Colorado River. We stopped at Upheaval Dome, Green River overlook and Grand View Point. What a view with the snow on the canyonlands. Magnificent.

We're certain that the park is beautiful in the other seasons as well but they will without a doubt be more crowded. We enjoyed touring Canyonlands at our own pace and easily finding a parking space at the turnouts to take pictures. We have 4 wheel drive and snow tires so we had absolutely no problem with the lack of... More
