This is a great drive straight down to the bottom. Straight down is the key word. Although it has plenty of switch backs this road is very steep so use lower gears and take your time. The views are amazing and once you get to the bottom take some time to get out and walk around. We had lunch in... More

If you are going to other national parks in the area and pressed for time this is one to skip. South Rim Road has several viewpoints with nice views, ranging from a few steps from your car to a short walk. There are hiking trails. While this a nice park, views are all similar and hard to compare to the... More

It wasn't as scary as I thought. It was breathtaking views and manageable hikes. There were longer hikes if you wanted. There were short walks to overlooks. A park for all sorts of levels of hikers/viewers.

The Black Canyons are a wonder to view. Many of the trails for the scenic overlook views from the top of the canyon are a fairly easy walk from the main road. They are no Grand Canyon, but they are pretty spectacular just the same.

This national monument is not well known in my opinion. We visited the third week in June and were pleasantly surprised. There were no crowds and multiple viewing sites. We stopped at almost all and were rewarded with different views of the canyon each time. We were staying at Crested Butte and it was a bit of a drive however... More

Driving the south rim road is easy and scenic. There are various viewpoints along the way, some requiring a short walk. I was happy to spend a couple hours out and back along the road shooting photos in the changing light.

Almost passed this NP by, but I was making good time and saw I could fit in this scenic drive and went for it. Glad I did. There are several look-out points with easy short hikes to take in great views of the Gunnison River below and the striking canyon walls that rise above it on both sides.

Easy drive and walk in foot path to see the Black Canyon. Spend about 2 hours to really appreciate it.

There's only three ways to really visit this park: 1) the HARD way by hiking into the canyon, 2) the long way by driving to the North Rim, or 3) the easy way by driving the South Rim road. It's paved with lots of pull outs and information. There's plenty of parking along the way.
