Sand Beach is 100% cooler, but Echo Lake is much smaller, quieter, less crowded and doesn’t have the strong ocean tides crashing into the shoreline. We saw a lot more families here. It feels like a much safer beach for children to swim in.

This was closed this time of year but I have been there several times in the summer. It is a fresh water beach. The only downfall is it is quite a climb back up to the vehicle.

Loved the tree surrounded fresh water lake. Was wamer than the ocean, for sure! The beach was PACKED! I discovered on this trip that I don't love spaces that are completely packed with people. The East Coast is crowded. My 13 year old had a great time relaxing in the water. I took off and hike Beech Mtn, which was... More

On a cloudy September day the parking lot and beach were completely deserted. Be aware if you park in or near the handicapped parking spaces there is a ramp which goes not only down the hill to the beach but also across the beach as far as the water. Spotlessly clean restrooms added to our experience before we sat on... More

Echo beach is a popular place to swim the park. The water is warm and crystal clear. Afterward, you can hike along the mountainside at the Beech Mountain trail. We swam here and kayaked here as well.

Park at the start of the Acadia mountain trail (which you should totally hike first!) and you'll see the changing room and staircase for the Echo Lake ledges. It's a short hike down, find a place to set up your things on the big granite sides of the lake and swim there! There's also a small ledge at about 2ft... More

Perfect for kids there is sand to build sand castles, nice bathrooms and changing rooms, and the water is shallow it goes out very slowly and their are lifeguards after ten o'clock in the summer. The view is great water refreshing

Echo Lake is one of the few freshwater areas that allow swimming in Acadia National Park. Since the water is quite a bit warmer than the cold Atlantic it is fairly popular on nice days. Even when busy there is lots of room on the beach and plenty of parking. There are changing rooms on site as well as foot... More

We originally took our kayaks to the swimming beach as recommended on there in the forum area - well, that is a real long haul from parking lot to the shore and i don't know even if it is permitted. So then we proceeded to the boat launch area down the road a bit. It was very busy and we... More
