Must do Acadia

This Acadia National Park hiking trail is a classic for a reason. The views of the water and the landscape are lovely.

One of the reasons I chose this hike was it was labeled "moderate" so I thought it would be perfect for me (not fit middle aged person) and my husband (more fit) and active teen daughters who like a challenge. I would not say it was moderate - it was a lot of uphill scrambling over large rocks and boulders.... More

First thing you need to know is that the trail head is on the other side of the beach. We made the mistake of thinking the Ocean Trail would lead to the Great Trail Head hike around Sand Beach. Cross the beach from the parking lot and start up the stairs. We went left and found it to be a... More

Outstanding views. Short with a beginning and end on the only Sand Beach on MDI. The rating convinced us not to do the Beehive Trail that you could see from here.

Easy peasy hike! Started at Sandy Beach and went south around the point. The trail has a figure 8 type path but all vantage points were gorgeous.

It's a short hike out to the end of the point. Great views of sand beach , islands and the park. Plenty of great spots for picture taking or just hanging out on the rocks. Visited here 20 years ago as well. Probably do it again in another 20...

This is one of my favorite trails in Bar Harbor. It can be done in a short time, and has beautiful views overlooking Sand Beach and the Ocean. Great for kids or beginning hikers.

This is a bit of a sleeper trail. Strongly advise that you follow guide instructions at start at the trail head at the top of the Sand Beach parking lot. Starting on the other side is a much steeper climb up. It was fun coming down, but glad we didn't go up that way. As with any hike in Acadia,... More

We were here in mid-April before the park was fully open. We'd hope to hike Beehive but there was still too much snow on the ground. We lucked out with a gorgeous sunny day and it was great to be on the Great Head overlooking the ocean. The hike is somewhere between easy and moderate.

The Great Head Trail is somewhere between an easy and moderate hike. It is not too long, less that two miles, but it can be a little longer if you do the entire "figure 8" trek. The highlight of this trip is the amazing view of Sand Beach and Old Soaker (which looks like a whale sticking out of the... More
