I hiked this trail on June 11, 2015 while on a roadtrip from PA. This was one of the only trails we hiked in Acadia, but I'm glad we chose this one. The views from this trail were just spectacular! Part of the trail was in the woods and part of it was on rock cliffs along the ocean. It... More

My husband and I were looking for the Ocean Path trail and somehow found ourselves on this trail. We were so happy we did! There are definitely some rocks to negotiate as you hike and we saw some folks having difficulty (mostly inexperienced hikers or individuals with various physical abilities). The views were simply amazing and it was such a... More

Wow! A very easy hike on one of the most beautiful trails in Acadia? Yes, please. Great Head Trail will take you to Great Head, an enormous rock structure that rivals Otter Cliffs in magnitude. Incredibly scenic views of Frenchman's Bay are the highlight of this enjoyable trail.

Great Head trail starts out as a stroll through the woods, and then turns into a rocky path before it comes to some great views! Well worth a senior's time and effort. But, like all of Acadia's trails, it could use a bit more marking. We intended to make the entire loop, but somehow took the trail across at the... More

Great views! Not to difficult, but you will have to negotiate some rocks. Make sure to walk full circle for best views. Great places to stop and sit and just enjoy the beauty. Can access from Sand Beach.

You have to reasonably agile to do the circumnavigation of Great Head. Starting from the beach (geographically 9 o'clock) and going clockwise the trail is comfortable until one gets to the first headland (2 o'clock) - after that make sure you follow the blue paint marks on the rocks and on the trees! The navigation gets very confusing on the... More

My husband and I hiked this "moderate" trail starting from Sand Beach which provided unforgettable views of the cliffs over the ocean. It took about an hour and a half to cover the trail with plenty of time for stops and pics. This trail might be considered challenging and I would not recommend it to the "flip flop" crowd. For... I found this trail to be a lot more rugged than expected based on reviews and that's why I'm only grading it 3 stars. Lots of up and down and over rock faces. Plus we got a little lost and ended up returning on the part of the trail we started out on. Views unfortunately were hampered by fog and... More

Reviewed by a middle aged, overweight flatlander. This trail can be accessed from the far side of Sand Beach. It's signed at the trailhead. It's supposed to be a 1.5 mile loop trail, but I got confused at the summit & we turned left instead of right. So..... instead of striking views of the ocean, we got a boring, but... More
