Short but great. Loved the views of the sea cliffs. Got some really fantastic photos up at the top of the steep hill.

This is a fairly easy hike to a point of land that juts out in to the ocean and provides many great vantage points and picture taking opportunities all along the loop. Although it isn't exceptionally well mark it is so well travelled that it would be almost impossible to lose your way. There are many little side paths along... More

This is a beautiful walk along the sea. As recommended by all do it clockwise. The views are great along the way. Enjoy and take pictures. The only confusing part is where to start from. If you start from sand beach then you have to take a small walk from the end of the parking lot to the great head... More

This figure-eight hike offers beautiful views of the rocks and water--something you think you might get sick of, but you never do! It has some parts that are more climbing than hiking, many places to stop and look out at the water, blueberries to pick, and some parts that are easy walking. It was the perfect thing to do before... More

Wow, wow, wow!! My husband and I love Maine, and Acadia National Park is our very favorite park. I had done a little research about this trail but we never had hiked before. We sort of started this trail as a "let's start and see what happens..." It ended up being absolutely fabulous! This is the trail that has gotten... More

Fun trail with some great ocean views as well as superb views of Sand Beach and The Bubbles. Expect the trail to be slippery with occasional ponding on trail, after rain. Compared to other hikes on MDI, easy/moderate. Compared to hikes on AT or above 9k' elevation: super easy.

Parked at the sand beach parking lot and crossed the beach to reach trailhead. We did the loop clockwise. I think it’s better to do clockwise to avoid climbing up rocks. You would get wide view of the ocean without any obstacles from the summit. The trail was easy, we saw many kids on the trail in the family. I... More

We are four adults in our early 60s who are very physically active, in good shape, and love to hike. This trail was right up our alley! We tried to access Great Head Trail from Sand Beach, but the tide was high and we would have had to wade across knee high flowing water and then hike with sandy, wet... More

Took Schooner Head road to the end and parked in the small lot for the Great Head trail. Beautiful hike along the shoreline of Great Head with great rocky coastline views. The trail has some moderate elevation gain, but is not hard. In some places, you have to look a bit for the blue trail marks on the rocks. Sitting... More

Once you find the beginning of the trail (a bit to the West of the North end of the Beach and across a small stream from a tidal pool) the trail is a great short hike - up some relatively challenging rock areas and then thru a thick and quiet wood to the rock overlook at the East end of... More
