We had been to the main section of Acadia a few times, and wanted to check out the Schoodic side this time. It's a very beautiful place, the loop road hugs the coast similar to the MDI section, and there are tons of pull offs to get great photos. This part of the park is MUCH less traveled, most of... Schoodic Peninsula is certainly more out of the way than the main part of Acadia, but, in my mind, WELL worth the drive! There were some people, but certainly not the crowds we encountered on the other side! We met an older couple who live '4 minutes away' from Schoodic Point. They told us the come every day, just to... More

The quiet side of Acadia National Park, located off Route 1, north of Ellsworth Maine. The pink granite coastline invites picnickers, photographers, birders, anyone seeking a restful place to sit and relax and admire the beauty of the north Atlantic coast. A visit to SERC, once a US military installation, now the Schoodic Environmental Research Campus, is worthy of a... More

I recommended this to my family given all of the terrific reviews on Tripadvisor. Indeed, there are fewer folks in this part of the park, and there is a nice rocky coast, but we just didn't see much action in terms of waves, etc. at Schoodic Point. We had seen similar coastlines elsewhere in Maine, so I'm not sure this... More

This section is out of the way drive time so is less visited by tourist. The Interisland bus also stops here. You can drive a vehicle to the summit of Schoodic Head at 440 feet, just use caution as vehicles have to yield to oncoming traffic. I was disapppointed that Park staff didn't know about the hiking trails at the... More

Had a chance to view this lovely piece of our national park system and it is beautiful. This portion of Arcadia is off the beaten path and is just as beautiful as the main park. It has a lovely picnic area, lots of places to pull off, park and explore, a educational center, and best of all...no crowds. We loved... More

Well worth the hour drive from Bar Harbor to this part of the park. You can take the ferry, but if you have a car, you can explore more at your own pace. No crowds here, just fabulous coastline and a few trails for short hikes. Look for the open gate on the right and drive to the top of... More

This is the quiet side of Acadia National Park. Incredible views, a few hikes, lots of places to sit and watch the ocean. You can take a boat or a bus between MDI and Schoodic. Bring a picnic, pull up a rock and enjoy. The hike to Schoodic Head is about 2 hours roundtrip, with some nice views; it is... More

So thankful that we got to experience this beautiful spot! We enjoyed watching the ocean and exploring over the rocks-especially our 3 little boys. They ran, jumped, and climbed. God's playground!

It was so beautiful we had to go back two days later to see it again! Took our two little yorkies with us and they had a ball looking out the window and stopping to see some of the rock formations. Not a lot of traffic like doing the Park Loop Road Mt. Desert and much more enjoyable. First time... More
