We did this trail as a warm up before doing the precipice hike. My wife is afraid of heights and was comfortable on this trail. We enjoyed this trail so much that we did the precipice immediately after this. It's a pretty short trail with a vertical section with some small ledges and iron rungs. If you're afraid of heights... This is the middle aged, overweight flatlander review. This was part of our great loop. We were on the Ocean Path for 2.7 miles. Gorham Mountain for 1.4 miles. The Bowl for 1.9 miles (including the return to the trailhead). I estimate we were on the Beehive for maybe .3 miles. We came from the Bowl, so we were coming... More

We went on Beehive expecting a challenge... but nothing like this! I'm usually not afraid of heights, however there are some tricky spots, so hold on! Luckily the trail is very well maintained and has rungs and steps in those tough to climb spots. In some cases, as the trail becomes skinny, a line must be formed-- be prepared to... More

An incredible 1hour climb with great views! Awesome for those teenagers you may be travelling with! Some areas of difficulty for those who do not handle heights well.

My husband, three kids and myself climbed this. There were a few moments where I was little nervous about the kids, but everyone was kept safe and we made it to the top. Very pretty views and a easier walk down the other side. I'd recommend wearing running shoes (something close-toed).

Climbed in the early morning sun on a very hot, humid day. DID IT and felt a tremendous sense of accomplishment till I got to the top and saw the sign that it's just a bit over 500 feet. Guess starting at 0 ft and going straight up on iron rungs makes it challenging. Continue to the Bowl which is... More

So most of my family was ALL IN for heading up the front and I was worried taking kids up a no-turning-back, CHALLENGING hike as advertised by the reviews...the compromise? Head up the back! We hiked up and down Gorham Mountain (definitely recommend and have a previous review on Gorham Mountain!) and then hiked up the backside of the Beehive... More

Wow! Would not recommend this trail if you are afraid of heights but at the same time, there are handles, rails and helpful trees to help you up this steep mountain. Amazing views, just don't look down. A definite must do. Not for small children, wear good hiking shoes. Be sure to also follow the signs to the lake. You... More

Having grown up in Maine, I thought I'd enjoy a fun hike with my brother who is an experienced climber (and lives on MDI). While at the base of the trail, the face of the hill looks quite intimidating. Seeing the look of trepidation on my face, a man who just completed the trail said to me "she did it,"... More

What a great hike/climb! I would not recommend taking children much under 12 and it's good to stay close to assist and provide cautionary guidance. The 500 foot ascension is achieved fairly quickly, but the views going up are outstanding. Looking back to Sand beach as you climb is awe inspiring! Don't miss this one!
