Acadia National Park is a gem, and this is a challenging trail worth the time and effort for views and thrills. Take your time and take care, and you'll be fine. A hiking pole helps. Not recommended for kids or animals.

This is one of the great trails of Acadia. It's very steep, so don't attempt it if you aren't prepared. You can't climb it until later in the summer because the peregrine falcons are nesting.

If you aren't afraid of heights this the best hike in the park. Over boulder fields, up metal rung ladders and narrow ledges are what you will find, just to name a few. Took this hike this summer with my husband and 17 year old son. My fourteen year old wanted to go but since we hadn't hiked it before...

We only had two and a half days to spend in Acadia, and this was the trail we chose to finish our trip with. It was a great hike with beautiful views, but knowing a few things first would have made our experience better.
1) Don't worry about the ladders. Trust me when I say that the ladders are quite...

Warning: Don't try this in bad weather.
Having said that, climbing the Precipice on a rainy day gave me an unique perspective. My recent (and first) trip to Acadia NP met with consecutive days of rain, but at the time I was obsessed with the Precipice, so ... what the heck.
I started just after some heavy down pour; the...

Challenging climb, this is not a HIKING trail by any means. If you are not in good shape or afraid of heights, don't try this! Not for small children as the trail can be very dangerous at times. There are posted warning signs that people have been injured and killed on this trail. My teenage daughter and I went, we...

I climbed the precipice this morning with my son and his girlfriend. They've climbed it before, but this was my first time on the precipice. First, this trail is not a hike; it's a climb - a climb up a rock face, so if you are really afraid of heights and aren't in good physical condition, don't try it. Second,...

Please be sure you are in at least above average physical condition, wear hiking boots or shoes, comfortable clothing and do not bring children. Don't go if the rocks are wet. If you are afraid of heights, don't go, you will be disappointed! This hike is not disneyland, you can get hurt, so take your time and be careful. The...

We have hiked the Precipice Trail about thirty times including (ignoring the "wear sturdy footwear" advice) in flip-flops and barefoot. Go when it's dry as the rocks can be very slippery and most of the trail is rocky. We like to warm up by parking on Schooner Head and hiking the Schooner Head trial to the Precipice crosscut to the...
