I was not prepared for what I witnessed here. The extent of the terraces is mind blowing. Sunrises and sunsets over the terraces are something your eyes have to see to believe. There is also a couple hikes you can do through the terraces to see them up close and personal, your guesthouse should be able to point you in... More

The rice terraces are beautiful. A through pass will cost 100rmb, car hire to see all 4 terraces incl minority village should cost roughly 300rmb. unless you are really into photography or decide to go trekking, a one night stay is enough, but you just need the weather to be on your side and if using the bus system for... Visit Yuanyang Terrace fields in February/March is the best season to see the 'Chinese fairy tale' feel landscape with early morning fog or sunset cooking smoke intersperse with various field patterns, hill silhouette , sun rise/set colours and tree blossoms of peach, pear and cherry. Mind you, Laohuzui Terrace Field for sunset is notorious for its crowd. Though you are... More

I was there in mid January and the weather was cloudy, with mist and rain. Couldn't see the "post card" sunset, but the terraces in the mountains were still magnificent. Worth the trouble and expense to get here. You will need a taxi or shared ride from Xinjie Town. Dress warm if you are coming in winter, because of the... More

Yuanyang terraced rice field featured fantastic, jaw-dropping scenic views! It is pending listing as a UNESCO heritage site, so better visit it before all the tourists start to flood this place. The terraced rice fields are farmed by Hani minority since over 1,000 years ago still using traditional eco-systems and is from about 400 m above sea level all the... More

Marvellous landscape, beautiful and relaxing. FYI: Rice is grown every 8 months in that region, thus inform yourself about the harvest schedule if you are interested to see the terraces with water, with green plants or with yellow plants. What I liked most about the region is that it's not touristic, so you can observe some real daily life of... More
