Well worth seeing inside this mansion. The merchants who built these houses imported materials from Europe and must have lived an opulent lifestyle. The building is still most impressive and an insight into the past.

my advice is don't! Room was filthy, water was turned off, had to charge down to reception so someone could turn it on. Loose wiring, possibly live wires. Bars on windows, door was difficult to open. Had a huge fear that the place would catch on fire and we couldn't get out! Dinner was actually good as well as breakfast,... More

You can start with the Raja of Chettinad's Mansion (restored), have a chai in the near by tea shop in another restored Chetti mansion, then walk around the area and see lots of them in various states, some still lived in and well maintained, some abandoned and deteriorating.
