Whale watching was one of the main things we wanted to do in Sri Lanka. We went with Raja and the Whales because of the great reviews and it's Eco credentials. We weren't disappointed!! The crew are really attentive and look after you as well as the wildlife. Sea sickness tablets are given out to anyone who needs them before... More

Read about Raja and the Whales in lonely planet, and as we came upon them while walking Marissa Beach decided to go with them. Picked us up from the resort, and when we arrived we were the busiest boat there. As it turned out this didn't make any difference as you were still able to see quite clearly because of... More

Sri Lanka is a terrible country for backpackers / those on a budget as every attraction is incredibly expensive - whale watching as well - 6,500 pp (around £32 pp). But, going with a company like Raja & the Whales, this is money worth spent. The reviews for the other companies kept referring to people being sick during the entire... More

This was an awesome experience. Got to see 2 Blue Whales within 15 minutes after waiting for quite a long time. The team did their outmost to find these fine creatures, and it took patience. While we were searching for the whales, by going in the oposite direction than all the other vendors, we saw quite a few blow-outs and... More

My friend and I did a whale tour in Dec 2014 with Raja and the Whales in Mirissa. The tour, the crew and their service was perfect. Free sea sickness tabs are offered to all when boarding. Followed by instructions to wear lifejacket during the tour and a brief on different types whales and dolphins that we may see during... More

We went out this morning, what a fantastic trip. The whole thing was organised so well,we booked on the beach the night before and were picked up by tuk tuk at 6am the next day. The boat left on time, plenty of space for everyone and we were given tea etc on departure. It took about an hour to get out,the sea... More

I can only echo what housemusoclover (below) has said- this really is well worth it. We did this a few days ago, and, it seems, had better luck- a school of dolphins at the beginning (including one which decided to do some tricks), and then sightings of at least six blue whales. None of them we were particularly close to,... More

We did a whale tour a few days ago in Mirissa. We used Raja and the Whale as read lots of good things about them on tripadvisor. They work with the IMO (international maritime organisation) to help track the whales and their patterns. They also a very caring and considerate of the whales and don't 'chase' them unlike some of... More

Choosing Raja & The Whales means caring about the whales as much as possible. These guys respect the animals as they give them the freedom of showing themselves as they like not trying to show them as in an aquarium. Nevertheless we have seen many (blue) whales, bride whales, dolphins and turtles on our trip. wheeew ;) The boat was... More

We had the pleasure of going whale watching with Raja & the Wales. The tour seemed very well organized and professional. Furthermore they followed the international standards for whale watching. The crew was very service minded and on arrival we were served fresh fruit, and a few hours later followed by omelet or fried egg. Cake and juice was served... More
