I just got off a day tour to Glendalough, Wicklow and Kilkenny that I took with Paddywagon Tours - it totally rocked. The tour driver was hilarious and really knowlegdable. Glendalough is so pretty! Was even better 'cause I got the tour for free because I stayed at Paddy's Palace Hostel! Stoked! more

Hauntingly beautiful and eerily spectacular, Glendalough Monastic Settlement is a sure stop for any Irish trip. The scenery alone is worth it, but the settlement itself, with its crumbling stone buildings and lonely roundtower, is a bonafied bonus. Be sure to take the walk up to the high lake, but button up because the wind up there can lay you... more

My husband and I visited on a self drive trip from Dublin. The weather was unfortunately cold and rainy but even then it was a really beautiful place. We walked along the path to the upper lake. We had a look through the ruins, cemetery and stopped by the little water fall. The upper lake was breathtaking. By the time... more

My wife and I visited Glendalough as part of the Wild Wicklow tour. The ruins were very interesting; the forest was enchanting. There were quite a few people there, but the arrival of tour groups were staggered enough that we were able to avoid the crowds and get some decent photos (as well as enjoy the serenity of the forest,... more

Glendalough is a worthy destination, but it is made even better by its setting. The hills and landscape provide an atmosphere of reverence for this religious historic site. A visit to Glendalough is truly a two-part experience: the journey and the destination. more

I think this might be a case of failed expectations given the glowing reviews found elsewhere on this site and in Lonely Planet, but this was just ho hum to us. Especially given the crowds of people present and that we visited some amazing ruins elsewhere in Ireland that we had completely to ourselves and complete access to which really... more

Glendalough is a lovely place to get to as well as an enjoyable place to visit. Lovely place to walk along the lake, or sit on the grass and enjoy the sunshine. If the weather is good when you're going drive through the mountains around the Sally Gap. Amazing views. And stop for food in the Wicklow Heather restaurant which... more

To tour the grounds is free. My husband and I walked the beautiful short path along the river to the monastic settlement. I had a guide book with me and just reading about the settlement and the history of the ruins was amazing. You could just image what it looked like. The cemetary around the ruins was also very old... more

This place was and still remains my favourite place in Ireland (no on earth) - Glendalough, I've been here countless times but its magic never fails to enchant me. It is as close to heaven as one can get. Just 40km of so south of Dublin city in Co. Wicklow, it is a bastion of mystical Ireland set amongst the... more

We toured Glendalough with Wicklow Tours Unplugged and were set free to walk around the monastary, cemetary and two lakes. Stunningly beautiful...the kids and the adults were amazed. more
