The Kehlsteinhaus was “OK,” but there really isn’t much there, as other reviewers have noted. The restaurant on site now is not necessarily memorable. The view is certainly beautiful, but if it’s cloudy or rainy (like the day we visited), the vistas are very limited. There is no tour or staff to discuss the WWII aspect of the site and... More

We were at the Eagles Nest in July 2014. Canadian Travelers. More then the Eagles nest was the just amazing view of the surrounding alps. My grandfather was in the Wehrmacht, so seeing the leaders diggs was awesome. Food was the best we had in Europe. The fire place is still original from when Hitler got this place as a... More

Since I am from Germany, I've been there a few times. The key to a great time there is the weather. I've been there when the mountain was completely covered in clouds, which makes the trip up there worthless. So, do your homework and check the weather and maybe have a plan B for that day. In summer this place... More

One of those places that you have heard about but never thought you would ever see. Built in the 1930's as a retreat for Hitler, but as it turned out he didn't go here very often as he was scared of heights. Our tour included a long and winding road up the mountain which you could well imagine being well... More

This needs to be on your 'Must Do' list if in this section of Bavaria. The history sullies the incredible beauty of the site, which is SO indescribably beautiful. Tickets can be purchased at the main theater and parking is fairly large and convenient. A bus then takes you up to the tunnel to the elevator. The views at the... More

we spent two days in the Berchtesgaden area, explored the numerous historic sites and of course as many Bavarian restaurants as possible. This particular one was a must go to on the list and we were not disappointed. Great beer, awesome food and fair prices. I had the Linsensuppe mit Wurst followed by Steak Tartare. Excellent!!

Hitler's former home, where he didn't stay for a night...! was a 50th birthday present to him from Bromann. Resting at a hight of 1834 meters on top of Mount Kehlstein with an awesome view of the valley bellow and the Kings lake. Near the village Obersalzberg, this property is reachable only by special coaches as the 6 km road... More

While the Eagle's Nest is, in itself, a dramatic display of engineering, the historical significance is the draw. Unfortunately, there is little in the way of translated historical artifacts on site for visitors. For that, you must pay extra and visit the "documentation center" adjacent to the bus terminal. Note - if the weather is good, the views from the... More

Amazing that this was built in about 13 months.Think of it , the road had to be built then the building materials had to be hauled up the mountain. The tunnels had to be cut, the elevators put in, the structure had to be built and the craftsman at the end had to finalize their art form.Simply incredible. The view... More

Visited Eagles nest (one of Hitler's former homes which is now a tourist attraction and restaurant) today. As our coach was too big to take the winding road, we transferred to a smaller bus for the journey to the top. On alighting from the bus, we walked along a long tunnel and then took the lift up through the mountain... More
