We are located in a regional park which has fantastic walks with great coastal views. The beach is a black sand beach and 45km long. Aucklands West Coast (Tasman Sea) gets plenty of swell which makes it a perfect place for surfers and non surfers looking to escape the hussle and bussle of the city for a few hours (or in my case life). From the surf shed we offer surf lessons, surf coaching, surfboard & wetsuit hire, adventure hire, blokart hire. We are a Kiwi owned and operated family business who pride ourselves on our old school friendly service. « less

Muriwai is a great surf spot and also a very beautiful place to be in with its rugged coastline. Taking lessons here is a great way to get the feeling of surfing and even if you dont manage to catch a wave you will still have lots of fun. More

I had a different surf school cancel a lesson and booked Muriwai surf school a few hours before the afternoon class. Although the other surf school said conditions were too extreme, we had excellent waves here and no issues. The school is personable and the staff was extremely friendly. I had one day to attend a surf lesson, and they... More

My sons and I took a 16 night New Zealand crusie for the Holidays. While at Port in Tauranga we booked a surfing lesson at Muriwai Surf School in Auckland our next stop. The owner Martin picked us up at our ship and drove us to his school. Even though the weather was rainy and overcast it was the highlight... More

Visiting with teenagers, with no previous experience, I can say even the first few hours are fun. Do not expect to master the breaks, but you can enjoy and the instructors are great, laid back characters. Being not native speakers, we struggled a bit with "surf jargon", shortbreaks and curls but learning by doing always works. Well worth doing it,... More

Family run, surf school on the shore on the black sand Muriwai beach. Amazing value for money, friendly staff with a genuine friendly attitude. If your in Auckland and want to get out of the city this is for you . Don't be put off by getting public transport out there, it's ridiculously easy. The best " beginner" surf lesson... More

My sister and I visited the surf school to ride blokarts, wind powered gokarts, on the beach. Martin, the surf shop owner, took the time to personally show us how they worked, and ran behind us whenever we'd get to close to the water to keep us from getting drenched. He and his wife welcomed us as friends and accommodated... More

Muriwai is a beautiful beach located about 30 minutes from Auckland (one hour by public transit) and is an excellent location for surfing. My favourite thing about the experience was the feeling I had while riding the waves and having a really relaxed and excited instructor! Martin, our instructor, had me up on my first wave and I loved it.... More

We were first time surfers and had a great time. The instructor was a very good and fun teacher who had us riding the waves in no time. Very wide and beautiful beach. Great equipment as well. Would recommend this to all my friends. More
