We contacted Melissa on short notice for a trail ride, but the weather wasn't cooperating. She was extremely gracious and flexible in finding a time that worked for all of us - the horses included. My partner is an anxious beginning rider, and I am very experienced with several horses of my own. Melissa expertly matched the perfect horses to... More

My teenage daughter (who has ridden since the age of 2) & her friend (who has no riding experience) thoroughly enjoyed their ride with Melissa. She has a vast knowledge of the local geology and wildlife and they came back having seen coyote dens, bear tracks, crystals, native pottery and also the area where Georgia O'Keefe's ashes were scattered. Our... More

My wife and I took the 2 hour ride for our anniversary and it was fantastic. Melissa really knows horses, geology, the region, and local history. It was heartwarming to be riding rescue horses and to be accompanied by rescue dogs. She gave me the help I needed, since I rarely ride. Melissa would stop at particularly scenic spots and... More

My husband and I rode with Melissa at the beginning of November, 2013. She is a wonderful guide with extensive knowledge of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the history of New Mexico, geology, archaeology and of course, horses. My husband and I are occassional riders at best. Melissa took her time instructing us and making sure that we were properly... More

This review is late in being posted, but better late than never. We rode with Melissa last August 2012. It was our first trip to New Mexico. My husband and I just loved the ride. He is the experienced rider, I'm novice, but didn't matter, Melissa makes you feel so relaxed and comfortable. She rescues horses and its obvious how... More

My daughters (14 & 19) and I had a wonderful time on the trail with Melissa. She was so knowledgeable and obviously has a passion for her horses and other rescued animals. It was refreshing to meet someone so in tune with nature and "unplugged", The beautiful vistas and scenery along the trail was breathtaking. We would absolutely go back... More

That gal is hands down the best horseback guide in New Mexico. I went up there bout 15 years ago and have been goin back every since. Not only is she very knowledgable about wildlife, plants, rock formations, horses(which gotta be the happiest horses on this planet), she has an incredible nack for relating to every age group and making folks feel safe.... We had a great time, riding with two kids (9 and 6) and two parents. Melissa was a great guide, great with the horses and the girls; gave us a guided tour of her impressive geologic collection and of the hundred (or more ?) hummingbirds that were feeding in her yard as the horses were readied. Beautiful scenery and horses,... More

The guide, Melissa, obviously has tremendous care for her horses and has rescued many abandoned horses from near death. That may be the skinny horse the other reviewer saw - she was probably rescuing it (she also has retired horses that are out to pasture). My mom knows horses and says they all looked very healthy and she had obvious... More
