For an interesting day out visit Aldborough Roman site among the northern most urban centres in the Roman Empire. Aldborough was the ‘capital’ of the Romanised Brigantes, the largest tribe in Britain. One corner of these Yorkshire defences is laid out amid a Victorian arboretum, and two mosaic pavements can be viewed in their original positions. The site’s fascinating museum has an outstanding collection of Roman finds. However, one of the 2 mosaics is in very good condition and worth a visit for that.... More

Only open at the weekend, but very pleasantly surprised at this small but interesting site. The museum houses excellent artefacts well worth seeing. On our visit we were fortunate to be able to walk through the Manor House gardens which prolonged our visit. The well excavated mosaics are beautifully displayed and protected in sympathetically designed buildings. There are steep steps... More

My girlfriend had seen the sign to this place a few times, so on a rainy Saturday afternoon with nothing better to do, she decided were going! Planned to come here today and were delighted that we were also able to be part of their events run by the friends of roman aldborough who are deeply passionate about the site and we tagged onto a guided tour. The history is fascinating and the mosaics are beautiful... Such a hidden gem. The museum pieces are worth a look... More

If you like History it is worth a visit here. Not much but a lot of history, and not far from Boroughbridge.
