It is a bit of a trek to actually get to the start of the cruise because you need to take a boat trip from Manapouri across Lake Manapouri then a bus journey over the Wilmot Pass from where you get your first glimpse of Doubtful Sound then down to the start of the cruise. The whole journey was extremely... More

we did the day cruise with real journeys. perhaps a smaller boat trip would have been preferable, but it didn't seem to crowded apart from the herding on and off boats, etc. The trip on a sunny day I'm sure is a dream, you cross a beautiful lake, then a bus trip through the forest, then the sound cruise and... At the recommendation of our campsite hosts, we decided to go on the Doubtful Sound rather than the Milford Sound cruise. It is far more of an experience of wilderness. We went with the slightly smaller Orange company than the Real Journeys folks - it's basically the same experience, but the bus and the boat is a bit smaller and... More

Great experience enjoying the beautiful fjordlands by boat. Even though I was the only one not able to catch any fish, i enjoyed it. The food was nice and very fresh. The knoweledge and experience from the guide is a bonus. Highly recommended! Great value for money.

Doubtful Sound is a magnificent experience, the fiords of Norway with added rainforest. Capt. Chris knows the sound and even found us a couple Fiordland Crested Penguins. We caught more 'crayfish' (we call them spiny lobster) the we could eat, fished, and kayaked.

Very interesting and good organised trip. All three parts - boat trip through Manapouri Lake, bus trip and Doubtful Sound cruise are all the time commented by crew with plenty of information. We were lucky because we had excellent weather and boats were only half full. With full capacity it can be a litlle crowded. As well by worse weather/visibility... More

I would like to thank Clint and Jen for making my time at Doubtful Sound extremely memorable. I had the pleasure of learning how to fish for the first time, I saw dolphins trying to race with the boat, they were extremely playful that morning, kayaking was great fun, all the waterfalls and mountain views were stunning and I even... Deep Cove Charters are highly recommended for an experience on Doubtful Sound. We visited with hosts Chris & Kate who looked after us. Kayaking, magnificent scenery, rare & beautiful wildlife, great fishing. The meals of freshly caught cod, crayfish and venison were cooked to perfection. Chris's local knowledge made the experience all the more interesting. We saw weka, crested penguin,... More

In agreement with many of the other reviews, if you are deciding between Milford & Doubtful/day vs overnight, the Doubtful overnight cruise is the one you want to be on! In Milford, we were one boat in a conga line of others, and it felt like we were being taken on a whistle-stop tour to tick the boxes. It detracted... More
