We did the trip in early spring (September) and got quite lucky with the weather. Staff was excellent, trip itself was perfectly planned by the company - kayaking, some swimming (for the brave at this time of the year), magnificent nature, a seal colony and the most beautiful sunset ever. We even got lucky and saw some dolphins in the... More

Fantastic voyage into Doubtful Sound. Even though the weather was a bit rainy on the first day, this just added to the drama of the mountains. The ship was spotless and really well maintained. The crew were jolly and helpful and the food was great. Really couldn't fault it at all. This was the overnight cruise.

A well organised trip with Realjourneys. We did it starting from Queenstown so an early start! Every member of staff was helpful and informative and very professional. Unfortunately we missed the trip to the power station on the way back as we were last off the boat and the coaches going there were full (maybe a system of checking people's... More

I was so looking forward to exploring Doubtful Sound with Real Journeys that I underestimated how much a great crew, excellent food and a well equipped vessel can add to an experience. Highlight would be swimming in this Fiordland gem. I can't wait to go back.

I traveled with real journey ytd on the overnight cruise. Having been to both milford and doubtful, I must say doubtful is certainly one of the hidden treasure of nz. The crew of rj were extremely knowledgeable and were very keen in making your stay comfortable. We encoutner dolphins, seals and penguins in the trip. The 2 km kayaking along... More

We had heard that Doubtful Sound was not to be missed, and it is true. We also were glad to have chosen Fiordland Expeditions for a small boat, more personalized experience. Our hosts were attentive and entertaining. The food was outstanding and there was plenty of it. The sleeping quarters are cramped as is expected on a boat. The scenery... More

We took the one day cruise to Doubtful Sound with Real Journeys on 28 Aug 14. A memorable trip. Well organised. Excellent boats. Very competent and well-informed staff, who willingly share their knowledge and passion for the Sound. We were blessed with a perfect day weather wise which was a plus. Took our own lunch rather than pre-order.

We took the full-day Doubtful Sound cruise with Real Journeys in early May, on a cold autumn day with thickish fog in the morning, weak sun at times, cloud and some drizzle – and the experience far exceeded our expectations. We were on the full day cruise because my husband wanted to visit the Manapouri underground power station, and we... More

We had the best trip to Doubtful Sound with these guys. We were met at Manapouri by Shaun and Maria our hosts for the next 2 days. These guys worked their butts off to make sure everything ran smoothly and that we all had everything we needed. They were also a great source of knowledge and amusing stories. The scenery... More
