Doubtful Sound is picture postcard beautiful - and well worth the 'effort' to get there (from Manapouri it's a boat trip across Lake Manapouri then a coach ride to Doubtful Sound).

It was one of the highlights of my New Zealand trip. It was amazing from start to finish. We began with the ferry ride across Lake Manapouri which was beautiful in itself. It was cold due to winter time but that means the boat wasn't at full capacity and we had plenty of room to move around. I had a... More

We went with Fiordland Expeditions and they were absolutely amazing. There were only 5 of us on board and it was such a personal and intimate cruise. The food we had was really really nice. Sean dove down and got us fresh Cray fish for dinner and we had a bit of a lesson of how to eat every bit... More

Amazing experience ----magical. Loved it. We were on a small boat, only 12 passengers and 2 crew. It worked really well and all contributed to an incredible time.

My original review was removed so here is the new one. We travelled as a group of 6 with Fiordland expeditions. There were a total of 13 people on our boat plus crew. There wasnt enough room for us all. We were squashed around a small dinner table, we had to share fishing gear, kayaks. The showers stopped working cause... More

We had a gentle day. Cruise over Lake Manapouri to visit the power station then by coach to Doubtful Sound. Tour of the hydro electric scheme was interesting and the tunnel engineering amazing. Loved the cruise...spectacular vertical rivers and the calm of the water, seals basking, then lovely forest colours as the afternoon faded on the return bus ride. However,... More

We absolutely loved our time on the boat with Chris and Tracy! They go out of their way to make sure every guest is taken care of and happy. I was very eager to see some penguins and Chris spent ages looking for them and right at the end of the trip was able to get us up close to... More

Not cheap but never the less a quality overnight trip, excellent boat, cabin food and crew. The weather didn't help however the skipper and crew went out of their way to show us what they could. Very knowledgeable guide. The opportunity to go on a tender and get a close up look was well worth it.

Recently returned from a fantastic overnight cruise through Doubtful Sounds with Real Journeys, on the Navigator boat. A wonderful experience from the moment we left Manapouri with well organised transport arrangements and friendly staff. The boat itself was excellent with good, clean facilities and the quad share cabin was good fun to share with friends. The meals were very tasty... More
