Joined with my g adventutes group. Fantastic overnight cruise exploring the New Zealand Fiordland. Rooms comfortable; I had double with own shower room. Food provided in saloon is never ending and delicious. Drinks at bar very overpriced $18 glass of wine, but complimentary water, tea and coffee available. Great to see penguins and seals as well as amazing scenery. Staff... More

We have done this trip twice and due to do it a third. Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound must be among the most incredibly beautiful places in the world and one really can't compare them. The overnight cruise with Real Journeys on the magnificent Fiordland Navigator is a must do trip. The organisation is top rate, the food incredible, the... More

I rate this area for magnificent views, right up there with the Himalayas, Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls and all the other wonderful creations of nature. The scenery is breathtaking. We were fortunate to have bottle nose Dolphins race around the boat, we saw colonies of fur seals, fairy penguins dived and swam under the boat, and we made an exciting... More

Based on recommendations, we chose Doubtful Sound over Milford Sound. No regrets. Total journey takes 7-8 hours, we took the 8am cruise and stayed at Manapouri (2 mins drive), came back around 1515. There a surprises here and there on the cruise, the magnificent views is enough to keep you awake. The only thing we didn't get to visit was... More

We arranged our cruise on Doubtful Sound with Real Journeys. We arrived at the ferry terminal at Manapouri at 7.40am on a beautiful morning to join the ferry for the first leg of our trip, sailing at 8.00am across Lake Manapouri. This in itself was a very pleasant cruise crossing the lake eventually landing at the power station information centre,... More

We did the overnight cruise in doubtful sound - research suggested it was just as good as Milford but much quieter. The journey there is part of the experience: bus to Manipouri, boat across the lake, bus to the top of the sound, boat on the sound. It all went like clockwork and the scenery, especially over wilmoth pass, was... More

Real Journey was extremely organised and the staff was very knowledgeable and well trained, which made a significant difference in the experience. It was more difficult to organise the Doubtful Sound cruise than Milford Sound for any cruise company, because we had to first take a ship to go across the Lake Manapouri, then a bus to cross Wilmot Pass... Because we already made the cruise from the northern to the southern island (Marlboro cruise) this was really a look-a-like cruise that costed a lot. It is not worth it,s money. It,s just a high overrated boat trip.

This was a cruise on MV Southern Secret and was an ideal chance to relax after a few days rushing about. There's a bit of messing about to get there, boat across Lake Manapouri, minibus over Wilmot Pass and a shaky gangplank to get onto the boat, but it's the price you pay for going somewhere so remote and it... We went there from Queenstown and took a bus, ferry and another bust to get there (it was a package)...perfectly timed and executed. Didn't have to lift a finger. The boat was good - but it's a boat. The activities were great...staff welcoming and the scenery left me breathless.
