Excellent grounds very quiet just the way I like it

As you go in there are very nice guards there not like those bossy people you are able to bring a picnic and relax and not have to worry about anything you get a map

I myself am a tour guide at Hillsborough Castle and it really is a great place to come to learn about the Royal Family and the history of Hillsborough. It is also possible to book for morning/afternoon tea in the Throne room of the castle if you bring large groups, then have a tour afterwards! As well as enjoying a... More

Had to leave Hillsborough area at lunchtime, so as first tour of the castle was at 12.30p.m. we just went early and did the tour of the gardens on their own, (£3.50 pp). We had the whole place to ourselves! Quiet, peaceful and not a corgi in sight! Two hours is just about enough time to cover all of the... More

The tour was provided by Distinctive Tours from our cruise ship. This is one of the official Royal residences but is not your typical "don't touch" locations. Visitors were permitted to sit on all of the furniture and get up close and personal with all of the artifacts. Rather than a castle, it was more very large mansion. The tour... More

What a treat - a beautifully arranged tour to the Queens Northern Ireland castle. This was not one of those "do not touch" tours. My wife got to sit in the queen's favorite chair. We had high tea using beautiful china and silverware. A great experience.

Hillsborough Castle can be found in the quaint rural town of Hillsborough in Northern Ireland. This is the Official Crown Residence used by the Royal family when they visit Northern Ireland on State occasions. There are organised tours of the Castle residence, but do check on the availability of the tours prior to visiting. This is an official residence and... More

This is the home of the royals and the Secretary of state in NI. We saw several rooms, all splendid and full of history. Although quite an illustrious place, the atmosphere was relaxed. We were pretty much free to walk where we wanted in the rooms which was good. The tour lasts an hour and our guide was very friendly... More

The fort and lake are really beautiful and very peaceful. A lot of people seem to go jogging there. As we strolled the walkway around the lake we met many families taking a leisurely walk with the children feeding the many ducks and swans on the lake

The actual site of the old castle is a ruin now and a good walk in combination with the lake, unlike the Castle which is home to the Secretary of State and Royalty when they visit NI.
