Lovely trip, great hosts, excellent equipment

I just came back from an amazing two night stay at the Galloway Astronomy Centre with a friend. I can tell you that Mike and Hellen are the nicest hosts I have ever met. The house offers very beautiful views and is not far from the Rooms were quite cosy with comfortable beds and facilities for hot drinks. Mike was... More

If you're interested in Astronomy, in my opinion ignore the Dark Sky Park to the north and come here instead - for these reasons:- 1. It feels darker here than the Dark Sky Park itself, you have the sea on three sides and the nearest town is about 20 miles away. 2. You have a place where you can comfortably... More

My partner and I stayed at the Astronomy center for 2 nights. Mike was a fountain of knowledge and was patient with us as we are astronomy newbies. The first night the sky was perfectly clear and he showed us everything we wanted to see. He even went out a second time as I needed time to warm up. The... More

Thank you for the positive comments. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and the things we do here. Plus most importantly you had one clear night to see our lovely dark skies. Sadly, we have to be a long way from civilization to give you the access to such dark skies which for you means a long... More

Cannot rave enough! Well catered for with an autistic child with very fussy eating. Huge portion sizes. Spent a lot of time showing stars, planets, galaxies, the space station. My son's dad died recently and had a star named in his memory. Mike (the owner) found the star, and made sure my son saw it on both nights of our... More

Very basic accommodation, cold house and fire was not lit. We had evening meal option; don't, there are nearby pubs that do food. Main meal must have contained <400 calories; one potato, a few slices of cooked ham and veg, as plain as could be. The owner's entry re food is misleading i am afraid. Serving half a slice of... Just returned today from a three night stay at the galloway astronomy centre and had to write a review straight away! This welcoming bed and breakfast is perfect for astronomy enthusiasts as the area is great for observing the night sky. Mike is a brilliant night sky guide and as I was a total beginner I was a bit nervous... More

I was taken here as a surprise birthday party with a new telescope. Within 2 hours we had been shown exactly how to use it and given lots of practical tips. We then went outside with it and were shown some parts of the sky with it. The first thing we saw was Jupiter and its moons! We also had... More

As a B&B this establishment really has slid way down my list of places that I would choose to stay - in fact I won't be again. The owners really have let their standards slip a looooooong way. The house both externally and internally have both not seen any real attention applied to them in the year or so since... More

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but there are aspects of this review that require an owners comment I would disagree that our standards have slipped since we are consistently awarded a percentage grading by VisitScotland equivalent to 3 Stars, the last assessment was in Dec 2009. The curtains have been there for a few years and were probable there... More
