Visited the Gavalas winery, and the decision taken was worth it. The lady at the reception was very kind to give us the tour (even though we went there after the time). She was very accommodating, and i would recommend this winery to everyone. It is way better than Santo Winery, and i would give them 5/5. Wines are amazing,... More

Viola at the Aressana Hotel suggested we check out this family winery when she heard we were going to Megalochori and we are so glad she made the recommendations. We've been to many wineries over the years so we've had plenty of tours but what made this one special was it's size. We sampled several different wines but the one... More

We stopped off while visiting Megalochori. Had an interesting talk about the wines and wine making. Saw some of the old methods and the equipment. Very nice wines and quite high alcoholic content. We had not realised quite how good Santorini wine is.

My husband & I were the only ones on our tour which made it very personal. The guide was so friendly and informative- we enjoyed it very much. As mentioned in one of the other reviews, they do still stomp some of the grapes. Also, the grape vines on Santorini are twisted in a circle rather than grown upright, because... More

Each wine tasting cost at least 2€ (compared to Boutari 1€ for same quantity) not a lot of explanation and the staff was not very friendly even though it wasn't crowded. We tasted much better wine and had a better (and cheaper experience) at Boutari, which is in the same village

Whilst wandering around a very end of season Megalochori village we stumbled upon this family winery. We were the only ones there and had a personalised tour of the winery. The guide was very knowledgable and friendly. She took time to explain the history of the winery behind these delicious wines which are authentic Santorini wines of real quality, the... More

Since we live in the cradle of superb wineries in the PNW, my expectations are quite high. While this was a pleasant pit stop and interesting to see a Greek run winery, my tastebuds were not impressed. Would recommend fora unique experience however if you're a regular wine consumer, don't expect much. They just started making reds a year ago... More

My two friends, wife and I visited Gavalas after being turned away from a larger nearby winery, and I am thankful that we did. Gavalas has a much more homely and rustic feel to it it, and the attention paid by the lady who served us during our wine tasting was perfect. They had about 8 wines to try, and... More

We visited Gavalas for a wine tasting as we enjoyed one if their wines (Santorini blue bottle) the las night in Anogi restaurant. We were not disappointed by the place and the explanations of the different wines and the particular processes involved in making each of them. The girl who assisted us during the tasting was very helpful and we... More

We had a lovely experience sampling wines and seeing the facility of this old family winery... A walk through the back of the winery tunnel brings you to the center of town filled with beautiful buildings and a great restaurant ... Raki... Take your time and enjoy it all!!
