Crete’s aquarium, Cretaquarium, opened in December 2005. Belonging to a large European family of aquariums, the Cretaquarium offers its visitors the unique chance to plunge into the great marine world of the Mediterranean. From the big hunter sharks to the tiny seahorses, the sensational jellyfish, the diversity of marine life is set off against underwater Cretan seascapes such as the rock formations at Matala( South Crete)and the sea bed at Vai(North East Crete).

The surround area is derelict full of graffiti and weeds you,d be forgiven if you turned around and left. The variety of fish was disappointing and lacked colour.

We ended up here by mistake. All the road signs advertise this aquarium instead of the Aquaworld Aquarium which is where we wanted to go. This aquarium was overpriced (9 euros for literally 30 minutes) and nothing special. We saw lots of poorly fish - they looked to have infections/sores/cuts. The aquarium was clean but very average and definitely not... More

Local area is near the beach which was not IOHO up to muster but as an old American military base it has lots of potential for... More

It was very nice to see all that sea creatures: sharks, fishes, sea turtles. Ticket is not expensive (9€), but a great time guaranteed!

Took us 45 min to go through and cost 9€. Nothing special if you've been to Aquariums before. 25min drive from Heraklion center, free parking.

Our great nephew enjoyed this experience and so did us big kids It is one of the biggest Aquariums in Europe and well worth the visit .Be prepared for a walk from the bus unless going by car ,then parking is excellent and a good restaurant on site

This was a nice aquarium. The variety of sea life was good, but no extensive. I would have liked bigger tanks in most areas .it is all indoors for a very low 6 EU. Each. Perfect to take kids. The walk from the bus stop was clear and well signed. Nice dining hall with fail prices.
