Crete’s aquarium, Cretaquarium, opened in December 2005. Belonging to a large European family of aquariums, the Cretaquarium offers its visitors the unique chance to plunge into the great marine world of the Mediterranean. From the big hunter sharks to the tiny seahorses, the sensational jellyfish, the diversity of marine life is set off against underwater Cretan seascapes such as the rock formations at Matala( South Crete)and the sea bed at Vai(North East Crete).

This was a nice aquarium. The variety of sea life was good, but no extensive. I would have liked bigger tanks in most areas .it is all indoors for a very low 6 EU. Each. Perfect to take kids. The walk from the bus stop was clear and well signed. Nice dining hall with fail prices.

Well organized aquarium, prices normal and fantastic for kids!! You need 3 hours max to visit all areas and if the weather is good, when you you can seat outside for a drink. Visit it early to avoid crowd (groups etc)

It houses a large variety of species, including a few sharks and large tortoises. Beautifully lit tank with slowly rotating water to best view jellyfish. Good size cafeteria, inside and outside, gift shop, good parking.Close to another attraction particularly good for kids, namely Dinosauria.

Cretaquarium is a worth visit place near Heraklion and Hersonissos. It has a lot of different fish and creatures throughout the Mediterranean sea, offering a chance to meet the inhabitants of Mare Nostrum. It is recommended for families, solo travelers etc. It is really well organised and the fee is not that big. Recommended!

Cretaquarium is a nice place to visit, especially when weather outside is bad. The big windows allow people to watch the fish even when the place is a bit crowded. You enter under the big pools you see outside, and go in a dark path so you can see clearly the natural light coming through. The path is a half... More
