Crete’s aquarium, Cretaquarium, opened in December 2005. Belonging to a large European family of aquariums, the Cretaquarium offers its visitors the unique chance to plunge into the great marine world of the Mediterranean. From the big hunter sharks to the tiny seahorses, the sensational jellyfish, the diversity of marine life is set off against underwater Cretan seascapes such as the rock formations at Matala( South Crete)and the sea bed at Vai(North East Crete).

I have visited this acquarium twice and each time as a family we have really enjoyed it. I couldn't get over how reasonable it was to get in. It cost us 9 euros each for an adult, 6 euros each for a child. Very reasonable compared to prices in England. There are a lot of fish to see and the... More

This was our first stop after arrival and what a great way to get the kids started on our vacation. The Aquarium is well designed with plenty of fish and marine life exhibits, sharks, eels, seahorses, jellyfish etc, greatly enjoyed by children and adults alike. The entire family (of 5 from our 2.5 year old to the 69 grandfather) had a... More

Heavily advertised throughout the island this aquarium turns to be very small with same creatures appearing here and there. If still want to come then do it in the afternoon as all the tourist buses would be gone by then. One of the big pluses is very good multi-language signage in front of every water tank.

Its one of the best Aquariums i have seen till now. It is a little bit difficult to reach but there is a busstop in walking distance. Lots of fish and a huge section with jelly fish. Great place to visit with Kids.

Impressive aquarium for kids. Sharks, turtles lots of fish , jellyfishes:) . My kid enjoyed every moment there . It was build in a former American base . If you take the bus , from the station to aquarium there's around 25 minutes walk...not pleasant on 35 degrees Celsius . I think a bus station (Minoan bus station) in front... More

Interesting mid-size aquarium, especially the sharks. Nice for the kids, comfortable and clean, but not so funcy if you have visited aquarium in the US

Kids will find it very impressive, especially the sharks. But if you have visited other aquariums, like the one in Barcelona, the comparison will make you think that this is rather expensive.
