Crete’s aquarium, Cretaquarium, opened in December 2005. Belonging to a large European family of aquariums, the Cretaquarium offers its visitors the unique chance to plunge into the great marine world of the Mediterranean. From the big hunter sharks to the tiny seahorses, the sensational jellyfish, the diversity of marine life is set off against underwater Cretan seascapes such as the rock formations at Matala( South Crete)and the sea bed at Vai(North East Crete).

This was trully one of the best experiences of our lives! We are a young couple which love to learn about new things and visit new cool places, and we had never ever been to an aquarium before, so imagine our surprise when we saw huge sharks, fish we never knew existed, jellyfish, etc. Since we couldn't choose diving, this... Even though we've been there again a couple of years ago, it was the best experience ever to visit the aquarium with our two years old boy! Congratulations to the people who contributed to this achievement! We have been to many aquariums around the world, and maybe this one is not perfect, but it is as interesting as many others... This Aquarium is among the best we have ever visited in the world; it is perfectly organized, lighted and informative. It contains a great selection of all sorts of sea life; sharks, sea snakes, colored fish, shellfish, turtles, seashells and corals. It is a photography heaven. The Aquarium must be very interesting to all ages; it is the best attraction... More

I am usually not a fan of aquariums but after being persuaded to go I highly enjoyed the Cretaquarium. Displays and a hands-on section make it a captivating experience. Prices around €10 per person. The art work displays of Trap! are fascinating showing unique perspectives of the marine life.

It is close to the hotels and interesting for kids. It Is like all other aquariums, focused to the Mediterranean Sea life.

Good for children no matter their age. We took our 6 month baby and he just stared at the fish - kind of worked as a sensory room for him. The cretaquarium has a large variety of fish, with lots of history and ecological information. The cretaquarium is set in an industrial park next to the dinosaur park. If you... More

An hour or two to occupy the 4 year old grandson and also interesting for the adults. An OK attraction with a wide variety of beautiful marine animals.

Very nice 1,5 hour calming experience (if you go fast around all the fishes). Pleasant dark atmosphere with lowered voices of visitors and listening to relaxing tunes. A bit too cold - have a light pullover with you. Great big sharks - biggest surprise! Nice 3 km walk from the far eastern end of Kato Gouves on the coastline. The... More

Very nice and cool place, especially for children! Great variety of fishes and other marine animals, nice atmosphere and music. Not within easy reach, unless you have a car.
