Crete’s aquarium, Cretaquarium, opened in December 2005. Belonging to a large European family of aquariums, the Cretaquarium offers its visitors the unique chance to plunge into the great marine world of the Mediterranean. From the big hunter sharks to the tiny seahorses, the sensational jellyfish, the diversity of marine life is set off against underwater Cretan seascapes such as the rock formations at Matala( South Crete)and the sea bed at Vai(North East Crete).

Whilst I'm not a fan of zoo's and places like this, we went as it's my way of making sure these places can survive at such a tough time for the Greeks. The place was immaculate and there was plenty to see. Some fish seemed to have minimal space opposed to others, however not being any way educated in this... More

The aquarium was easy found and had a nice presentation. Some of the aquarium looked a bit small for the fish. But is was a nice morning out.

This is quite big aqquarium in the old american military base in Heraklion. The have a lot of big fishes - also large sharks. It was an amazing expirience to look to sharks swimming above you. Great. We have never been to aquarium with so big sharks before. We spent 2 hours there and have a really great time. Our... More

A must visit for all animal lovers. They got a rich variation of sealife. Bring a camera as there's alot to take pictures of. They got a suvenir shop and a place to eat also, so you can kill several hours here. We drove 1~ hour from rethymnon and it was definitely worth the drive. We went to Aquaworld &... More

What can you say. It was impressive!!! The tanks with the Sharks are breathless!!! But there is more to it. It might not be the biggest aquarium I have seen, but I would definitely visit it again!!!! The only bad thing was that our little one, was scared.

We went here with the kids and it was quite ok. But nothing extraordinary. I was actually somewhat impressed with the standard and quality. But if you want a special treat for your kids I would recommend the Aquaworld Aquarium & Reptile Rescue Centre in Hersonissos - just 15 min drive from here.

Medium sized aquarium, which was pretty busy when we went. Really good for families with children. The most popular area was the large tank with the sharks. Plenty of seating areas for those like me who get a bit tired walking round places. A good way to spend an hour or so, if you need to entertain the children.
