Crete’s aquarium, Cretaquarium, opened in December 2005. Belonging to a large European family of aquariums, the Cretaquarium offers its visitors the unique chance to plunge into the great marine world of the Mediterranean. From the big hunter sharks to the tiny seahorses, the sensational jellyfish, the diversity of marine life is set off against underwater Cretan seascapes such as the rock formations at Matala( South Crete)and the sea bed at Vai(North East Crete).

We came across the aquarium as we was having a stroll along the beach. Reasonably priced and a good day out would recommend to family's and couples. It is quite big so it takes a while to get round but it's a nice thing to do to change your holiday up rather than always be out in the sun. Also... More

Cretaquarium is the best aquarium on Crete. Normal fees to enter. Definitely worth the visit. Tou spend around two hours to see the various kinds of sea life species they have carefully put together.

From the smallest to the largest it pays to spend time finding them all here. The tanks are well maintained, and, providing you do not use flash, with modern cameras you can get amazing shots.. You will, of course have favourites, for us it had to be sharks, as this is one of the few places where you can almost... More

We have spent about 2h in the aquarium and got a decent snack at the cafeteria which is at the entrance. Based on some of the mixed reviews we didn't have that high expectations, but at the end we were thrilled - it's really nice and clean place with a very calming atmosphere. Some of the tanks are quite big... More

It was a decent aquarium, I've been to better ones. We spent 2 hours their entertaining a toddler killing time before the airport and it helped to keep him occupied so all in all a worth while trip.

Cretaquarium was our answer to a very rainy day while visiting Crete at the end of October. It's set in kind of an odd location, near the sea but with mostly abandoned architecture and housing nearby (due to the American military base closing some time ago). Don't let that deter you - Cretaquarium is really nice. No, it's not the... More

We visited here with our young children and we all really enjoyed it! Lots to see and there's a place to eat there and a lovely gift shop. My daughters like the turtles the most! Also the dinosauria park just along the road is a must see for families with children too!
