The beach Prevelis also known as Lake Prevelis Phoenicia, located at the exit of the imposing Kourtaliotiko gorge where passes the Great River. It is certainly the most famous beach in southern Crete, and receives thousands of visitors every summer. Previously, he was a favorite among hippies. On the banks of the Grand River is a large colony palms of... More

One of the most beautiful places in Crete. A lit bit crowdy after 2pm but really nice in the morning. There are two ways of getting to the beach - from the hill (30min) and from a road next to it (10min).

Preveli beach is a rarity in my experience of beaches. It has natural shade from the trees lining the river that empties into the Libyan Sea at the coastline here! The shady ground was perfect for a blisteringly clear and hot summer day. In addition, the sandy beach terminates about a yard into the water, becoming smooth pebbles and rocks... More

OK, so this beach was recommened by a guy from the car rental office in Rethymno. We rented a car from there, got a SatNav and off we went. The way to the monastery was good with some pretty awesome views on the way. The SatNav sent us past the monastery and through the mounatins. I cannot decribe just how... More

Arrived after a night of storms so the river at Prevelili was swollen and muddy brown and difficult to cross. No sun beds or umbrellas beach grey and littered . A small shop selling drinks and snacks.......very disappointing! The only good point was going by boat rather than hiking !

The beach and palm forest are truly wonderful once you get there. The road access is terrible with poorly maintained roads and what can only be described as downright dangerous Greek drivers around tight bends at altitude. If you survive the car journey there is a daunting cliff path walk down to the beach, remember every step down has to... More

We were recommended to visit Preveli Beach by our hotel and equipped with a map and GPS we drove from Chania via Rethymno and turning off before Spili. We stopped on the way at a magnificent gorge with mountain goats standing on each side and bleating to each other from mountain crags on each side of the road. After this... More

Drove ourselves there, easy to find with sat Nav. Follow brown signs to monastery, beach is last turn off on left before reaching monastery - which is worth visiting also. I would not have wanted to walk down to the beach wearing flip flops, would recommend trainers or similar. I set my perdometer on my i pod for the walk... More
