So, local to here and often call in to look at the plants and have a drink whilst entertaining grandchildren. Golf, pitch and put or wait for them row up the river. I think the plants are a tad expensive and the cafe is average, but lovey spot by the river.

We were out walking and wanted to stop somewhere along the way and saw signs for the cafe and garden centre on the main road so decided to give it a try. Lovely cafe open until 30 Sept when they close for the season. Set along the banks of the river Esk. Seating inside and out and as it was... More

Stopped by for lunch at the cafe. Lovely spot on a sunny day by the river. Menu as you'd expect, sandwiches, salads, jacket potatoes and a few hot dishes. All reasonable prices. Service was fast & friendly. Our dog was made welcome & water provided which is always a bonus. If i was to have to draw a negative, the... More

Arrived in wheelchair with my husband, sister and brother in law for crab sandwich or a ploughmans lunch, recommended by my daughter. There wasn't any dissabled parking, and very steep ramp up to the outdoor seating area, no toilet facilities for a person in a wheelchair and not able to walk. Then when we tried to order we were told... More

Before becoming disabled I designed and planted out my own gardens. For several years the attraction that this centre had for me was the rare species of many plants including several that were propagated by Perry's themselves. In later years the attraction has shifted to the meals that they prepare and serve themselves. In season their superbly fresh Whitby crab... More

I am a keen gardener and on a recent visit to gardens in the area we called in here! Totally non sophisticated - this quite delightful riverside setting on a sunny day is heaven. From a small wooden kitchen - miracles are produced - light lunches - all home made. Watching the slow running river, passing canoes, kayaks, and row... More

We have been going here for years, basically ever since we found out they did croquet with a proper lawn at a really reasonable price! As others have said, there is no shortage of things to do here, whether it be wandering around the garden centre or doing some putting, you can easily spend an afternoon here. The café also... More

The River Gardens are situated on the bank of the river Esk in Briggswaithe, Sleights near Whitby. The attraction is basically a plant centre with garden ornaments and accessories with a café and miniature putting green. There is ample free parking. The plants are often unusual varieties with many being home grown from cuttings and seed. The café serves basic... More

I don't know which to praise first. The riverside setting. The cafe with outdoor seating. The great plants or the croquet and putting greens. Plenty parking and places to sit just to admire the view. Steam trains pass by as well which is a bonus. Just a lovely place to visit and while away some time especially on such a... More
