It was a great experience but hard work to climb to the top. One does not need mounteneering experience but you need to be fit and you have to have a guide. Once up there it is a view you will not forget.

This place is truly unique! We climbed very early to the crater guided by a local guide and the views absolutely amazed us!! This place is absolutely incredible and well worth a visit...clearly the highlight of our journey to Fogo and possibly Cape Verde! Also, it is remarkable the struggles of the local people during and after the last eruption...true... More

We have visited Fogo, flew there by little plane which was scary but worth a trial! Island and volcano is breath taking. Recommend!

First of all, since the volcano erupted in late 2014, the access is somewhat difficult nowadays. Looks like it's gonna be possible to stay in the Caldeiras in the next season though (end of 2015). However it's still possible to go up, but prepare to pay extra for the transport as it's not possible to stay up there for the... More

I've been in so many volcanos in Central America but this one is different. You can get a great view from the top and it was an easy hiking. Of course you need a guide since the path is not too clear to find and it took us 2h30 to go up and enjoy the beautiful weather (take one bottle... More

As of December 2014, ongoing volcanic eruptions have destroyed most human construction at Cha das Caldeiras. Much of the island required evacuations.

In November the volcano of Pico pequeno has erupted. As it is active, no climbing is allowed. In fact, hundreds of people living in the vicinity were evacuated from the surrounding villages, some of them lost their houses for ever, part of crops has already been destroyed. It it foreseen to be active for a month, there are no clear... More

Fogo was the second island on our two weeks trip to Cape Verde. We spent three days there and it was our best time on the whole Cape Verde (except maybe Santo Antao island, but that was a little bit different kind of impression). So, the ascent to the volcano is simply the MUST. Moreover, the descent on the ashes... More

I stayed for a week in Cape Verde and simply this is the most extraordinary experience you could have there. Skip the beaches and go climb Pico do Fogo!

If you HATE flys and heights this is not the attraction for you. This volcano is a beast, prepare yourself for a workout. My hotel set my friend and I up with a guide that spoke English and was able to navigate us through the "trails" and give us information about the crater. There are flys everywhere... millions of them... More
