Though there is not much built up here, if you use your imagination you can almost see and feel the 6th Roman Legion camping out and protecting Trier from the Germanic and later Frank tribes, though historically they vacated the area and it was reclaimed by the Franks, it is quite a site to be seated in something that existed almost 1700 years ago. I mean 1700 years and we get a glimpse into what was...amazing. I recommend planning on being there during the Roman festival which I believe it was July, but check the interwebs.

This is an amazing, 100% complete reconstruction of a Roman villa, located on the Germany /France border. Plan to spend a few hours here if you want to eat. The mosaic is incredible!

We have seen many roman ruins but these are the best preserved colourful and complete mosaics we have ever seen in situ. Hidden on a normal street, but well signed. Well worth visiting and only 1.50 euro!

After a small walk with my family arrived to the mosaic inside a villa. I opened the door and a woman shouted to me ohne word “Mittagspause“. Really loud, how did I dare to visit and open door.
So rude and offensive, this deserves 1/5.
Don’t know about the mosaics we didn’t return after the “Mittagspause”.

The centerpiece of this attraction is an incredibly well-preserved 2nd-century mosaic floor from an early and extensive Roman Villa which stood here in Nennig. We were touring the Mosel by bicycle and this place is quite close to the trail, well-signed and easy to find. There has been some restoration of the mosaic but it seems to have been very skillfully done and the colors and figures are amazingly vivid. Many questions remain about what this villa was originally like, but the curation is nicely done and quite interesting, though the video is a bit hokey. Definitely worth a visit!

While "following Grandpa's WWII footsteps", we entered and explored Nennig. After locating a few landmarks to that purpose, we returned to our carpark and took the time to read the advertisement/information there. The explanation was that the remains of a Roman villa still existed in this war-torn town. Not only did it still exist but it contained one of the finest examples of Roman mosaic! The map showed that it was right across the street, behind a line of street-front buildings. We entered and enjoyed strolling the villa grounds, exploring the diorama to appreciate the magnitude of the original structure and viewing the mosaics. This provided an excellent introduction to the scope of the Roman Empire for my grandson. Worth a stop if you have a reason to be nearby; it is not far from Trier, just of the highway.

Do not miss if visiting the Saarland. Dating back to the 3rd century AD and wonderfully preserved, this mosaic is 80% original and one of the most outstanding of its sort north of the Alps.

Visiting with friends in Germany, we were taken to this Roman Villa. It was amazing. A farmer in 1852 while working his lands discovered the remains of a floor of a Roman Villa. The floor is now encased in a building and preserved. Some restoration was needed but overall, this mosaic floor was well preserved. It is worth the trip to see this relic of ancient times.

We all foudn this visit to be very interesting - good value for money. I particularly enjoyed the flower and herb gardens but the children liked imagining what the baths would have been like. The kitchen section of the museum is very well done too.

We spent about an hour looking roundbut could easily have spent more time, especially if we had decided to check out the Taverna.
