We were having a day exploring the Pict culture. We were starting to understand this migration from Ireland and the settlements over 1500 years ago. And then we turned into the car park for Carnasserie Castle, climbed the hill, and found ourselves in 2 stories - The Picts farming in Glen Kilmartin and 1,000 years later the Campbells providing the... Got to the castle late in the day and had it all to myself. Good photo opportunity. Loved walking up the winding staircases (both of them) to get all the way to the top walkway. Definitely worth a visit

Very interesting ruined castle-you can climb up to the top through narrow winding staircases on both sides. Sits all by itself up on a hill after a half mile or so walk. We had the place to ourselves...

This is a great castle with stunning views across the glen. We tried to walk there from the car park at Kilmartin Museum and got chased by some cows. It was actually really funny but we were not going to risk trying to cross their path when they had their calfs beside them. So a couple of days later we... More

There is so much to like about this place, not least it's comparative unvisitedness and that it's free of cost and interfering attendants. Probably my favourite castle in Scotland.

There is a large free car park just off the main road into Kilmartin, there is no fee to visit the attraction either. The castle is a 0.5km walk up a path from the car park. The castle itself is not huge, but it is well worth the climb up the winding stairs to the top just for the wonderful... More

What an amazing experience! We spent the morning at Kilmartin Glen, hiking around the standing stones and cairns, then came to Carnasserie Castle. It was a steep but short walk up to the castle from the parking lot. It was definitely worth the breathless climb, though - the castle itself was amazing. There are stairs inside that will take you... More
